First, your data is wrong first off...because if the idea is "Fred sucked then did better, Rhule can to...Rhule sucks right now are they comparable??" not "how does Fred's successful season compare to Rhule's shitty season" you can't include this year, you have to compare Fred's suck to Rhule's suck and you have to use the same amount of time because again, the idea was there's more games against ranked teams in basketball.

Here's the actual for Fred:

Total 7-9

Fred got 16 opportunities in 3 years. Rhule got 9.

Are those equal? No. Nor did I claim they were. In fact I have even said here that Fred has done more than Matt with less.

Then I saw teams that were inconsistent. A lot like Fred's first 4-5 years. Play well one game, play awful in another.


Now, do I think Rhule is going to put it together? Probably not, but most coaches ultimately fail. Do I think with 100% certainty he won't? Absolutely not.

Predicting coaching success is on a good day a crapshoot.

You can also see the whiff on a high level DL or RB this cycle as gravely concerning. Both can be true. It's not black and white like you want it to be.

Ranked team in basketball is tougher than ranked team in football as there are twice as many basketball teams.

I agree that beating a ranked team in a losing season is no better than losing to ranked teams in a winning season, and I agree that final ranking is more indicative of how good an opponent is.

As far as seeing progress this season, there were some glimmers but it's hard to get past the blowouts in the last three games against nonelite teams. Just hard to see progress when Penn State, Cockeye and Utah just completely outclassed us.

I don't feel like white knighting for Rhule. He's made some mistakes and he has to pay for those. Sims, for example. He paid a massive price.

RE: the Raiola family circus though....he really had no choice in that matter. He had to go all-in on the Raiolas with where the program was at. And the risk of Dylan becoming Joe Burrow pt 2 if he passed on him. It's not an excuse for Rhule, it's just a fact. Anyone else would have done the same thing.

By the time we got to last 3 games, the wheels were clearly off the wagon RE: the Raiolas. Rhule knew he had to fire Donnie, let Dylan go, cut ties with Dayton. The season was FUBAR at that point, so I don't know what you were expecting in those games vs PSU, IA and Utah (who were also like the 3 best teams we played all yr).


Rhule needs to reset after the Raiolas like Hoiberg needed to reset after Abdelmassih. The difference was, Fred could do it in relative anonymity while Rhule has every decision he makes being micro-analyzed by 100,000s of losers with nothing better to do (I'm one of them lol).

I say give Rhule a chance to see if he can turn it around like Fred. Not sure why we can't give him the same grace we gave FH.

In a way, Fred's fuck up was worse: he CHOSE to being Matty A in here and ruin his program. Rhule really had no choice RE: the Raiolas.

Coaches CAN turn things around and get better with time. Will they? Maybe, but probably not because frankly it might be a less than 10% chance that ANY coach is successful long term in football anymore.

Since we're talking about how patient to be, I thought this tweet about NFL coaches was super interesting.




So then I made my own version for College Coaches since 1970 or so. I was surprised Osborne took the longest, only because I thought Bowden or JoePa might've taken longer.

Since 2000, the average coach takes 4.05 years to win his first natty at the school.
But since 2016, the average is 6 years, so a bit longer.

Dabo, Harbaugh, and Mack Brown took the longest since 2000 with 9 years, 9 years, and 8 years.

Nor sure if this helps with Rhule, but thought it was interesting lol.
