So um, Bourbon thread? Yeah, Bourbon Thread.

Yeah, most of my purchases have been off of Nebraska Bourbon discords for buy/sale/trades. Most of the bourbon I want (Buffalo Trace produces and Penelope) have been 2nd hand.

I've had to force myself to keep things sane on bourbon collection by limiting my taste for it.

There are so many new distillers and bottlers, I just can’t try them all. I’m also not keen on trying something new that’s $60 a bottle. I’ve done that a few times and been disappointed. Penelope and Bardstown being outliers that I heard about on here.

I seriously wish bourbon would go back to being the unpopular, stodgy old man drink.

I could find whatever I wanted before assholes started collecting bottles and blogging about it.
I think we’re trending in that direction. Out here on the east coast I’m seeing prices come down. I saw a Thomas Handy for $500 a couple months ago. I was walking through DC and randomly popped into a store that had regular Weller for $65, 12 year for $200, EH for $70… I’m still seeing jacked up prices for most of the other rare bottles but I don’t think they are selling for those prices. The greed and lame behaviors surrounding the secondary market has definitely created fatigue.

I’ve never participated in raffles or waiting in line for a bottle. It just never felt like something worth it to me.

I can’t stand the fucks that just collect it or view it as an investment. I buy to drink it

Heard the Stoney Brook Hyvee location was a shit show in terms of their draws yesterday. People got in line at 9:45 AM and only 1/3 was through the line to get their ticket, they started to draw for their bottles.

Also heard that someone brought their family of five and they ended up getting several first picks of bottles while the main guy of the family directed which bottle to grab to one of the other 4.
Hyvee didnt lose in court for being a bunch of crooks for nothing

Yea the prices are stupid here in Nebraska too. Dad always talks about Pappy van winkle but can’t ever find one under $1,000. At this point my plan is to try and find one for his 80th birthday in a few years, he’s 76 now and in very good shape for his age so I’m HOPING he makes it to 80 lol. It’s a few years out so at some point I may put a shout out on the board here when the time comes for some help locating one.

Get in the bourbon thread on the mainboard. 12 days of Christmas raffles started today. Have to play in at least one raffle before entering a 12 days of Christmas raffle.

Everything is heavily discounted. I just hit on an antique 107 store pick and weller SR for $5 to kick things off.

That’s a good get.

I’m lucky if I EVER see any of the Buffalo Trace products in store down here.
In GA, most of my local stores have BT and ER 10 on the shelves regularly, and I am now even seeing Weller’s SR too. And if you’re willing to pay secondary prices, I can find just about everything else too other than some ultra rare bottles.

You’re in NC with the stupid ABC liquor stores, right? I assume that’s most of your problem

Know of any spots I should check out in Columbus GA? I’ll be at the in-laws in opelika for Christmas. I know Alabama is worthless, but hoping I’ll have time to drive across the border into GA.

I’ll buy a few of the BT products on line, but it still pisses me off. Kid that works for me on a project in Virginia routinely finds Weller 12, Weller 107, Blanton’s and ET products in a shitty little liquor store in Maryland that specializes in liquor for the financially disadvantaged. It pisses me off.

South Carolina, but similar stupid ABC stores, or as they call them down here ‘Red Dot’.

True story, every South Carolina liquor store has three Red Dot’s on the building so those of my neighbors who can’t read still know it’s a liquor store.

Do you have any military connections? I’ve heard the Fort Benning base store has cheap pricing, but I don’t know if they have rare bottles. Isn’t Opelika where Brewzle lives? I would suggest his house. Lol

BIL just got medically discharged after 16 years. He was stationed at the AFB in Montgomery.

Good call on Brewzle. I should rob his house. I know there is one one of those ABC events he’s filmed going on in opelika while I’m there but need an AL ID. pertinent can drag my BIL to that.

Anyway, Georgia has a dumb rule against chain liquor stores, so there can only be two of any store (so like only 2 Costcos or total wines sell liquor in GA), so I am unfamiliar with any specific store there.

Americus is somewhat close to Columbus, which is where they distill 13th Colony. And if you like outdoor things, Providence Canyon is close too.

Didn’t realize 13th colony was from GA. Been looking for a bottle for a while, hopefully I can pick one up. Probably wont be able to make it to Americus though.

Also…. Speaking of Pappy in my last post, anyone here watch Landman? My wife was wondering why I was crying when Cami poured out a bottle of Pappy on Monteys grave lol
Yeah, I told the wife that was bullshit. I mean I know its nothing to Cami with her money, but there is a bourbon lover out there that is dying trying to get a bottle like that, and she pours it all over the ground in front of a grave.
