Looking for some possible feedback on some deer hunting gear. Most years I go back to Nebraska to hunt family farm land for the first few days of the season. The temperature can be anywhere from 60 to last year's temperature.

This is my current setup for layering. I put on most of it when I get to the stand.:

1. 13-year-old Cabelas Berber Fleece quarter zip hoody
2. North face primaloft vest
3. Patagucci Nano puff (primaloft jacket)
4. First lite sawtooth jacket
4. First Lite Furnace quarter zip
5. First lite merino crew
6. First Lite Obsidian merino wool pants
7. First LIte Uncompahgre zip up insulated pants
7. 300 gram merino wool long underwear
8. 800 gram danner pronghorns.

Now this is where I need some feedback. I'm looking at adding First Lite Solitude Bibs and the Solitude Jacket. The solitude jacket has really tight forearms and it's given me pause on how much layering one can actually do with it. The other option is to get the Scent Lok Divergent Jacket. The FL Sanctuary is also an option.

What are some thoughts on jackets?

*I get discounts with both brands.

I won’t be able to be much help as a I’ve never used First Lite, but heard great things.
On the super-cold days (negative to 30 degrees) I wear a Cabela’s base layer, Sitka Fanatic hoodie, and Sitka Fanatic coat on top. Then have my Sitka heavyweight merino bottoms and Fanatic bibs. Everything is vented and completely open on the way to the stand or I’d be sweating my ass off. I don’t get cold in the stand, and it’s very quiet gear for bow hunting. I want as few layers as possible on while also staying plenty warm.

The fanatic gear is pretty awesome. I work part time at a Sportsmans Warehouse and we sell it but I'd have to order it off the website. I do get 40 percent off. How heavy is it?

It’s heavy! They came out with the Fanatic Lite a couple years after I got mine, and that would likely do fine with a couple base layers. The hoodie is my go-to, though. I wear that everyday it’s 60 or below.
My dad has the Incinerator coat and bibs. It’s definitely not as heavy in weight, and it is noisier than the Fanatic (still not noisy), but it does offer more wind resistance.

When in the stand for the last 10 years I’ve always worn my Sitka base layers (add Justin Charles Marino wool when extremely cold), Sitka pants and shirt, Sitka vests and Sitka coat & bib. The clothing is articulated as to not restrict movement and has always kept me warm while not too bulky. It’s all older now so I can’t even remember the names of each piece. Most recently tho the last couple of years I generally wear just my pants and a light top. I then proceed to sit in a comfy swivel chair with a buddy heater in my redneck blinds while enjoying a 6 pack of beer. I hope this helps!

Hey brother, not sure if it will work with your 40% off or not, but I did just get a 30% off that I can share.
Any interested parties that do not already get Sitka discounts, reach out to me via message with your email, and I can forward you the code.

Yeah I'd take. I used to have the Sitka, I think Incineratr, mittens that turned into gloves. Those things were awesome until my puppy tore it up.

I know dudes that have shot nice deer every year while smoking heaters in their stand all day long.
It was the same thing moose hunting. I remember one year my buddy and I were hunting an oxbow lake right off the river. I was sitting in the woods at the crossing of 3 trails while he was sitting on the oxbow lake. I called in a bull moose. It was wild how much they can shake the trees. Buck fever is a legit thing when you are waiting for a big bull moose to appear 20 yards from you.

Anyhoo, a couple local guys parked their boats upriver from us so they didn't know we were there. They shoot the moose while wearing bright yellow rubberized rain coats. At the time I had on Simms G3 waders and a bunch of Kuiu shit.

Depending on where you live the absence of cig smoke in the air would tip the Deer off that something is up.

Like when all the birds go quiet or fly away.

Smoking burnies is just like using urine, scent camouflage.

He hunted public in Southern IL. Even the deer have a nicotine problem down there
Maybe @God is a Husker can extend his legal jurisdiction eastward beyond the Missouri borders to share a heater or two with the local wildlife in-season. You hate to see them foraging for butts on the ground trying to keep their minds calm during the rut.

My suggestion would be to bring the cheapest unfiltered brands. Those deer are picky, and the locals aren’t paying for the “rich smoker” brands.

Illinois is 1 of the states that are a bunch of stuck up cunts and refuse to join the UBE or do Reciprocity (Wisconsin is the only other Big 10 state like this)
