What do you feel is an appropriate amount of schemes to make up the bulk of your run calls?
It seems like we run about 8 or so before you get to any of your option series.
In your toolbox and what you carry to a game is going to vary a little.
So probably something like this.
Run Scheme: 5-6
PAP Scheme - 1-2 dedicated PAP Schemes different from Dropback
Dropback - 2-3 schemes - include Empty, 5, 6, and 7 man protection
Slow Screen - 1-2
Fast Screens - 1-2
Sprint Out - 1
I'm just spitballing a little here.
For me personally, we have
5 run schemes - Tight Zone, Power/Counter, Pin & Pull, OZ
7 pass schemes Power Pass, Naked, Half-Slide, P&P Pass, Sprint Out, Slow Screen, Fast Screen.
Will we run all 12 in a game...not a chance, typically we run about 3 run schemes a game, and 4 pass schemes a game.
Here's Ohio States Schemes from 2014.
