I'm blame Geoff Collins. #1...his name is Geoff spelled with a G. #2 I'm sure he gave Rhule and Satt assurances of the kids potential. Fucking Asshole.
But in the end, they still took him...not knowing he's not cut out for it mentally.
In the Spring I thought Sims would be fine. I legitimately believed that. I watched the dude throw at practice. He could spin it. They ran several RPOs where he fit the ball in on the Glance routes. He threw their play action game well. I thought, okay, they're going to be very similar to Baylor. A lot of run game, paired with easy RPOs, play action, pretty simple drop back menu. They can be efficient, move the ball, and take some chances with PAP game. If the offense looked like the 2019 Baylor Team, 22nd in total offense, 65th in rushing, 25th in passing, 18th in TOP...I think everyone would be pretty happy with it.
But when the bullets fly...he can't do it...and that's reflective in what they're running. I haven't seen an RPO with a glance route since week 1 or 2. Even when we were hammering counter, and a $ is flying down into the fit...perfect opportunity to use it...we don't. There's just no confidence there...there can't be. The fumble Sims had, was on a Counter RPO, reading the apex LB with a TB flare screen...he literally, ran the wrong way.
I've been heavily critical of the offense. There are things they do okay. There are some horrendous calls IMO, mainly because I don't think if you know they can't execute it...don't run it. At some point, it's either the players aren't executing, or the coaches aren't doing well enough to get them to execute. I don't know where they are in that line...probably both.
