Implications for playing younger guys - I'm guessing we'll see some of that 10/4

Guessing we see more Pritchett, and more Dawson, Mozee, Pietrzak and Mills, against MSU
Yeah three and running out a bunch of true freshman. Da fuk is going on.

Merritt is a high 4 star LB and that kind of player would get significant PT as freshman almost anywhere

Honestly unless a player is clearly a developmental guy who isn’t physically ready like a TE who is going to grow into a OT or maybe a QB where there’s no reason to play as the back up, I don’t see the benefit of redshirting in the portal era - play whoever can help

especially as it seems certain redshirting will be eliminated

I meant we have nothing else going into year three is not a good sign.
This is somewhat fair but I’d word it this way…

We have a gap at DT in 2025. I think we have some really good options that will develop next year into something special, but Popp didn’t improve to the level we needed him, and the rest of the commits from that 2023 transition class are even further behind. (2021 and 2022 classes are total whiffs, too, hence how young we are now) So, if we assume this challenge will persist in perpetuity, I think we’re being unfair. I like Kade a lot. Simpson might even get a lot of snaps in the back half of the year. Keona and Gabe can be very good for us, too.

If we’re recognizing the gap we have this year, then totally fair.

I actually was thinking about this Saturday night. Next year’s defensive line should be pretty good

RVP
Nwaneri
Lenhardt

Davis, Kade, etc

Plus you probably get to see guys like Tyson Terry and Parrott who could become good enough to enter the rotation

We just need to survive this year and keep building momentum. Defensive back in 2026 should be fine with Marshall becoming CB1 and adding Benning/Jones/Guthrie/Hill into the rotation

Linebacker remains the big hole on the defensive roster long term IMO. Merritt is very promising but raw, Shavers is good but not great, McGahee seems to have taken a step back, can Rogers, Gradney, Mooberry, etc step up? We will need to go back to the portal for at least one guy here if not two next offseason
