Breaking Urban Meyer is out at Jacksonville

How different is the coaching landscape in college if this happens 3 weeks ago?

Is he at Notre Dame? Florida? USC? LSU? It would have completely changed the outlook on college football for the next few years.

It's crazy to think about all of the coaching changes that happened this year and not one of them occured in the Big 10. Very stable conference this year.

Possible openings in 2022: Nebraska, Texas, Arizona St, Syracuse, Florida St., Auburn doesn't seem to like Harsin too much. I could see Mack retiring at UNC. Colorado possibly realizing that Dorrell isn't the answer. Trying to think of other coaches that could possibly be on the hot seat after this year.

What gets overshadowed by Meyer's off the field issues is how bad of a NFL coach he was. No one expected the Jags to have a good season but he came out of the gate stupid in using their second first round pick on Etienne. They had so much value there and needs to fill. That and his personnel decisions throughout the year were pretty bad.

EDIT: I had to add the fact that he brought in Tim Tebow. I almost forgot about that. What a shitshow the Urban Meyer experience was.

The type of coach it takes to be successful at the collegiate level is just so much different than the type it takes to be successful at the professional level. The only one I can think of that made a successful transition is Pete Carroll and he had a lot of NFL experience (including head coaching experience) before going to USC.

Urban Meyer failing probably hurts the chance that Ryan Day goes to the Bears next year as the head coach.

Harbaugh was pretty successful with the 49ers but he obviously had a lot of NFL experience as well. Seems like the hyper controlling college coaches like Urban and Saban don’t really translate to the pro environment.

Urban was already on most ADs' no hire list going into this year. Dude did not have a good reputation in the admin community and was never a realistic player at USC despite all the talk. After all of this shit, I would be surprised to see him ever take a college job again (and if he does it'll be a major red flag situation that I think Urban will view as beneath him).

Is he a bigger risk than Jim Tressel? Even though I feel that sweater vest has no interest in coaching again.

if Hugh Freeze can get hired, so can Tressel, but my understanding is Hugh Freeze will never get a job in the SEC. Another interesting one is Lane Kiffin as apparently that dude has some serious rumors from his time at FAU (he tried to get the job at Oregon and they did not return his calls), so going to be interesting to see who swallows the bullet on that one.
