Ok tPB, let’s try to be objective. Set aside that serious changes were sorely needed two seasons ago. Let’s look past HC Frosts inability to get past himself, his indiscretions, and general failures. Just for this thread.

Over the next week we will be set and looking towards spring ball. We have a couple more check boxes to fill…and would like to hear your constructive, if that’s possible for us, thoughts on where we are.

Whip seems like a strong addition who has attracted one quality QB and perhaps lands a second in Purdy. I was rooting from the OC from Virginia, but Whips last year if nothing else gives me a lot of comfort.

Mickey seems to be another high quality addition that brings a new level of professionalism and experience to his room. In turn has brought with him some solid recruits that may or may not play out.

Our OL coach addition seems to lack experience, but in turns brings some credibility from the NFL and has a longer term connection to a serious QB recruit if he sticks as a coach.

Busch appears to be the guy in the ST room. Proven and good recruiter in the past.

RB coach still unknown.

At this point I still have a lot of concerns around Frosts ability to let loose the reins and I can’t see how he doesn’t do it out of self preservation.

So, that was a lot of words I recognize. I’m struggling to not feel confident on our chance to get to a bowl game this next year and be in the mix for the West. I don’t believe we win it, but feel we should have expectations of 8 wins.

If and it’s a big if, our defense can not tail off and guys step up and play within the system, the two other phases of the game look to improve.

I’d give us a strong 8/10 for off-season moves.

I really like most of the changes. However, it might be a year too late. I don’t know if the new coaches can develop our current players enough in a make or break year. We’ve lost a lot of talent/production.

I’m also a little disappointed with the Raiola hire. He might be great but in this scenario, I wanted someone who was proven.

I agree that we are a year too late. Really gives a moment of pause in thinking they can make the progress that is needed.

Raiola call is a big question mark. Ideally he can fill the gap adequately. Have to think his hire had a lot to do with his nephew…which in and of itself is good but seems short sided too.

The losses on the Line are rough. I struggle with 5 wins given the schedule. Really feel that 7-8 should be realistic. Course that just may be the sip of Kool-Aid I had.

I think 3 is still the floor on wins. Even if I would have assumed the worst about this team coming into 2021, Frost still underperformed expectations in W/L. I don't really see a reason he couldn't do it again next year with the uncertainty on both sides of the ball.

I don't think Frost can get out of his own way. There is a fine line between Arrogance and Confidence. You listen to his press conferences and he just doesn't have that gift with words that most great leaders have. It's difficult to listen to him in press conferences. More like Bo than T.O.

I hope that Scott can turn it around but until I see a well coached team I have my doubts. It almost seems like he is always trying to be the smartest man in the room. Surround yourself with great coaches who challenge you.

Offensively we should have plenty of talent at most of the skill positions with the only question mark being RB. Special Teams has been a Shit Show for 4 years but if it is Busch then I trust he will make it at least average. Biggest concern is defense as we lose a bunch of talent and experience. Worried about the Safety position.

I honestly think your point on Scotts communication is insecurity…as if he realized he wasn’t ready for this job yet…and he’s covering some of that with just comments you can’t understand.

My hope is Whips experience along with that of Mickeys gets him in a better spot.

He hasn’t had a lot of real big time experience if any supporting him on the staff. That of course was his fault…and let’s cross our fingers the new additions can make a difference.

I agree. He hasn't surrounded himself with the necessary quality support to really help him be a new young coach at the Power5 Level. I've been around enough dynamic leaders and CEO's to tell which people have the Leadership Gift. It is pretty obvious that right now Scott doesn't have it. It is a skill that comes natural to some successful leaders but others learn it. Scott needs to be open minded enough to learn from his mistakes to evolve into that type of dynamic respected leader. He's gotta be open minded enough to listen to people and work on his weaknesses. Everyone in the state will get behind him if he puts a winning well coached team on the field.

Spot on. It feels like he’s been humbled enough to evolve. Time will tell us pretty damn quick. Let’s hope so.

As far as coaching moves go, Whipple and Joseph were very solid hires. I'm deeply skeptical of Raiola and unfortunately he could undermine the other two considerably. Busch is a no brainer, but RB is still an unknown. So Frost is at worst 3/5 on those. (As I said in another thread I think they need to commit to the run more and I'm skeptical of Whipple on that front, but he had a hell of a year so hard to bedowngrade the hire).

What they needed out of the portal looked something like this to me:
- Proven QB (check)
- Specialists (check, check, and Palmer returning check)
- Proven OL (one check, idfk on Williams)
- Edge rushers
- Quality DL

Is the roster going to be better than last year? At this point I think it's clear that it'll take a step back in terms of seniority and starting experience.

We're losing a lot of experience on the defensive side. We're bringing in a new OC and QB. We still haven't identified a game changing RB and our OL is largely a question mark with the departure of Jurgens.

Overall, there's a lot to be excited for with the moves during the offseason so far but it's reminiscent of every year that's come before.

Making a bowl game is the benchmark and by that I mean going .500+ during the regular season. That was my expectation last year and honestly it was a very reachable goal despite the difficult schedule.

At this point I don't really care what happens with the staff in the long term. Retaining Frost shot my ability to give a fuck.

I like the off season moves but temper my optimism with waiting to see how it translates on the field. There is still something inherently wrong with that program to have been as bad as they have the past 4 seasons and it starts with the HC.

Joseph is a good move and I'm in on the things he's been able to accomplish thus far. He has a fill to him like he's not meddling in mediocrity. I'm suspect of everything else and need to see it.

The bottom line is Nebraska football isn't a contender and Scott Frost is a bottom half of the Big Ten coach (I feel like I'm being generous saying bottom half) who was forced to fire some of his old staff and really didn't replace them with clear upgrades. The administration changed the standard for a guy who's proven to be a loser. None of this feels like we're moving in the right direction. Recruiting is also a laughing stock. Joseph, good pick up...even though let's face it we weren't getting him if the staff he was on got canned. Whipple is cashing out....he can't lose. The OL coach got a huge promotion. The TCU RB coach (if that happens) is also coming from a staff that has failed. SF didn't recruit good coaches here, he's not bring anything good here. Even if he has a winning season...are we supposed to be happy about that? That's the new standard?
