Tell me about your best bar fight ever...win or lose.

Fuck, I could fill this up with crazy ass bar fight stories. I worked/owned in the Live Music/Night Club industry for over 10 years. Soooo many stories. My staff and I had a brawl with a dozen Military MP's. Had another fight right in front of the stage with about 20 people going at it, and had a bottle nearly smashed over my head breaking up that one. 60 person brawl in my parking lot, if you include me, my staff and a dozen cops. I got into a brawl involving 3 YUGE Samoans while Tone Loc was performing, and the band was helping me from the stage. Most scared I have ever been in my life. Had a drunk asshole take a sucker punch at one of my security guys and he almost knocked himself out. Broke up a fight and the guy swung a broken bottle at one of my doormen, after I had him completely subdued my doorman who was a Kick Boxer threw a Full Round House Kick and missed his jaw by about an inch. Had to fire him for that move..... Pick one and I'll give you more details on the story

I guess the one I’ll ask more details in is the last one. Why the F would you follow what society would want and fire the guy? If you owned the establishment then it was your call. If the guy didn’t have a bad history then what’s the big deal if all he did was neutralize a dangerous situation. Broken bottle is a serious threat on the doorman’s well-being. That man didn’t care that you thought you were a hero and had the bad guy subdued. In his world it’s fight or get killed. Unless there’s more than you explained here I hate that you fell in line. Grow a pair and give the guy props for being able to defend himself and everyone around. Of course sounds like you wanted to be the “subduing hero” and got butt hurt when he won that from you. 😁

Small town in KS. There was a bar that was a little over a mile outside of city limits kept having big fights basically every weekend.

At this time the local PD and the sheriff's department did not get along.

PD would get called and would say "its outside city limits call the sheriffs department" and the SD would get called and would say "its within the extra territorial jurisdiction of the city police, call them".

Eventually my office (county attorney and city attorney) would get called and told of this buck passing and we would have to get somebody to go out there and actually work.

Small town PD usually only had 1 officer on night shift patrol and 1 officer at the station who would be dispatch and clerical.
Sheriffs office had 4 deputies total to patrol a 1,000 sq. mile county + they ran the jailhouse. (and were the bailiffs for the courthouse), as you can imagine at night they too only had 1 deputy on patrol covering the entire county and 1 deputy at the jailhouse who would also run night dispatch.

Needless to say my office could understand both side's arguments for why responding to the bar fight should be the other's duty.
But we were also sick of getting called in the middle of the night having to play referee, also sick of having tons of random work because the slow response time to the fight only escalated the fight and we ended up having more damage, more injuries, more people involved, etc etc.

After 2 months of this every weekend shit my boss got so pissed he called the Sheriff and Police Chief in and told them next time there is a big fight he wants them both to respond in force and just fucking arrest everybody at the bar. We had the County Judge/magistrate ready and we would do first appearances that night and sort out the who gets to spend a night in jail and who is gonna walk. Ended up arresting 12 and booking 4. Needless to say the 8 collateral damage bystanders were none too pleased with the "likes to fight" boys.

Once was all it took for the regular patrons at the bar to start policing the trouble makers themselves, my office never got called again about fights at that bar.

What county did this happen in

Not a good story but always makes me laugh. Was picking on this kid in jr. high before PE one day, he got pissed and threw his regular clothes down after he changed to gym clothes and said "fuck it, let's fight" He was a nerd so I just laughed and walked away with a couple other friends. That was the end of it.

No bar fights. I actually tend to make friends and make really dirty jokes when I've had too much to drink.

There are places like that where it's a bar just waiting for a fight to break out. Back when I lived in the Twin Cities, I used to travel a good part of the state of SD with Randy C., the Terminal Manager from our Aberdeen (before I moved it to Watertown) operation. I asked Randy why we didn't have more State of SD business from Pierre, and he said he was tired of getting in fights whenever he traveled there and had to spend the night.

To be fair, Randy was a scrappy little Irish dude who knew his way around a whiskey section. His recollection was the town "below the dam" (Fort Pierre) was pretty rough, but I had little doubt that he could find trouble where it may lie.

So...this one time my old partner asked me to come down to Jasper, Mo to help him with a place called the Double Deuce. Really thought the place was a toilet, more like the Double Douche. But, I went down to help him clean up the place. He was young and dumb and got all wrapped up with this local doctor which set off a shit storm. She was 'dating' a local big wig and the guy went nuts. The guy wrecked a couple local businesses and burned down a house. F'ing nuts. Anyhow, got into some serious scraps with 5-6 dudes at time and got stabbed. Thankfully, I pulled through it, although my buddy thought I was dead and took off after this other guy. Lot's more to the story, but bottom line...stay out of Jasper. Fuck that place.

I've been involved in a few.

Worst one for me, where I got my ass kicked, was due to my asshole friend who's 6'1 140lb and loves to run his mouth. At one of those shitty lounge/bar knock off club places back in my early 20's.

Anyways, my buddy starts talking shit with some dudes at the table next to us. That crew is a bunch of older, jacked, spiked haired, diamond stud jeans bros.

After a little back and forth pushing, my buddy smashes a beer bottle over one of the guys heads. The rest of us are unaware. Stoned, drunk, happy. Mini-brawl starts between the two groups. The rest of us reluctantly get in the mix. Our group is able to escape out the back exit with the help of security. We get away pretty much unscathed. Until the crew we fought who left out the front, showed up at the end of the alley and chase us down. We all get our asses beat until the girls we were with pull up in the car to get us out of there.

No one talked to that friend for months.

Not me, but one of my favorite nerd fight stories from college. This kid who was a high school band geek, didn’t play a single sport, always got picked on by the jocks. He somehow gets accept to the Air Force academy. Comes home during one of the breaks and goes to a house party. The old center from the football team back in HS (of course he never left town and still wears his letter jacket around) starts in on band geek and he’s had enough after years of build up. He kicks the ever loving fuck out of football guy. It was glorious.

Maybe my one sentence didn't explain it well enough but Security is there to protect. I hired Security People who were use to physical contact so they don't freak out if they are hit, because the last thing you want is to hire a big guy who gets popped and then seriously injures someone. Hence the reason a good portion of my staff was former College/NFL Football players.

In this case there was a fight and 2 of us were breaking it up. One of the combatants had a beer bottle in his hand but had not used it as any form of weapon. As we were separating the 2 guys his hand with the beer bottle was slammed against the side of the bar in the tussle. The bottle broke. He was still in "Fight Mode" as his adrenaline was through the roof, and you could tell he wasn't someone who was regularly in fights. He took a swing that almost hit my doorman, but was not intended for my doorman but had the bottle in that hand. He ended up dropping the bottle on his own as we were breaking it up. There were 2 guys fighting and only 2 of us initially breaking up the fight. I subdued the guy with a Full Nelson from behind and he was standing totally exposed, and defenseless. Lots of liability on our part breaking up a fight, especially if someone gets hurt when we have them defenseless. Other Security Staff showed up and 2 grabbed the other guy from my doorman. As I was walking him out the other doorman came over threw a Full Round House Kick at the guy I had 100% subdued and defenseless. Luckily he missed or that guy would have probably been really hurt. Sticky wicket, bottom line is shit happens and we always wanted people to feel safe. My doorman would have escalated the problem instead of just letting me take the guy outside and get it handled properly.

My doorman was some rich kid from Israel who's family owned big beachfront bars in Mexico. While visiting one of their bars in Mexico he met a girl on vacation who lived in Vail and followed her up there. He had an extensive background in Martial Arts and Kick Boxing and was big and in shape. If he can't control his temper/emotions in a volatile situation than he could be more of a liability than an asset. My staff needed to be able to keep their cool when involved in breaking up fights. They knew that as I stressed it when I interviewed them. That's why I loved hiring O Linemen, as they were use to getting beat on plus had the size/strength to disable someone quickly. Had a 350 lb doorman who played O Line at Michigan and as I was running to help him break up a fight he literally picked up both guys by their shirts and lifted them off the ground one in each hand. Shook them and said "You don't want to piss me off". Was an impressive display of strength, and the fight was broken up without anyone getting hurt.

Gotta love the comeback story. This kid got super into drugs during high school and I have literally no idea if he's even still alive to be honest.

As a former insurance agent I knew liability was exactly where this was going. I just wanted more out of the story. Thanks for sharing it. Pretty fun hearing all the stupid shit people do!
