Nothing earth shattering but it reminded me of when Frost took over as to how he treated the players he inherited. This guys son was a 3/4 Star O-Line recruit depending on the recruiting service out of high school. Committed to Lovey Smith. Dad said that Burt didn't really talk to the players he inherited, except for the obvious stars. The only time Burt actually spoke with his son was when Burt met with him to tell him to find another school because he was going to recruit over him with his type of players. From the sounds of it Bielema's players don't really like his. Can be a real ass towards them at times plus never speaks to most of them. He doesn't expect Bielema to last more than 2-3 years there due to how he treats players. His son still keeps in touch with a bunch of his former teammates and sounds like quite a few players aren't happy there. Players don't feel like he cares about them, just about winning. Also reminds me of what Kansas players would say about that wife beater Mangino. BB seems the polar opposite of Rhule when it comes to interacting and caring about his players.

The old school style just isn't gonna cut it anymore. Anybody who doesn't admit that is lying to themselves.

The world changes. In some ways it changes quickly while in others it takes more time. College football has always been a slow adopter but it gets there eventually.

Or you have to be a REALLY established winner, like Saban, or someone like that.

I think you can still be a hard ass and get through to the players. Seems like Bort's issue is that he doesn't pair being a hard ass at times with showing the kids he actually cares about them.

But getting down to the nitty gritty here in the mangino comparison, does beefy bart wipe his ass with towels?

Maybe, but Bert was still way more successful early on than Frost. So something about his methodology was working. The real test for Bielema is whether or not he can recruit going forward.

Lovie Smith repeatedly fcked himself over by trying to reinvent offensive philosophies like 3 different times. But that man absolutely knew where and how to find NFL talent.
