Special Teams Coach Hot Board

Schaefer said on the radio this morning that we should not immediately dismiss him not being on the staff next year

Any team looking for a STC, Ekeler should be mentioned as someone they want. But that guy saying that on a USC message board will make this go viral in husker social media circles taken as a fact and then they will act as if it's the end of times.

That being said, if Ekeler leaves after one year to go to another Big 10 school, that's probably the nail in the coffin for Rhule. Ekeler is a local, supposedly wanted to move back to Nebraska and if he bolts after one year then there is a valid reason for that.

I think one guy's opinion on the USC message board of "USC wants Ekeler" shouldn't stir up as much shit as it will. I mean..no shit USC wants Ekeler. Every school not named Michigan State should want Ekeler leading their special teams.

Schaefer says don’t dismiss Ekeler leaving real possibility.

Lose Ekeler and it’s a lame duck season. The one phase of the game that was working.

Rhule came in with this reputation that he worked guys hard but that coaches love him. If Ekeler leaves for a lateral job, that narrative (which is already on the ropes) is dead in the water.

And who knows maybe Ek sees it’s going to crash and burn and doesn’t want to go down with it.

Feels like a lot of assumptions/conclusions being made based on one post on an in conference board saying they'd like Ek (no shit)...for a position that isn't open and was acknowledged as something they'd like to "make some changes" on. What does that even mean? Because it sounds more organizational to me - like do they want to go a route that Nebraska has gone where you have consultants for the specialties in addition to a Coordinator?

But we now immediately devolve to "FUCKING RHULE fucked up again and scared off the alpha on staff..." Let's just see what plays out before crucifying. If we get to the end of this and Ek is gone - we will have plenty of time to appropriately and justifiably crucify.

I in no way, shape, or form want to lose Ekeler, and that would potentially be a red flag, but one thing I haven't seen mentioned here is that this could potentially be Ek's agent putting a squeeze on to get him a bigger deal at a point where he has all the leverage.

Also, Ek presumably has at least one more year left on his deal, and is not getting fired, so if he left now, that would be him making the choice to do so. I'd hope Rhule would fight like mad to keep him, but I wouldn't hold Ek blameless if he jumped ship either.

LOL. no shit...and if Ekeler stays at NU, does Rhule get any credit for keeping him on staff? LMAO, I already know the answer to that by how bitchy this place has been lately.
