Special Teams Coach Hot Board

SORT OF UPDATE:

So it looks like there is a post on the USC 247 board that might be the source of this smoke. I don't have access to that. According to someone on the 247 Nebraska board, it's not an article saying Ekeler is interested in USC, but is apparently more of a theoretical scenario the writer is laying out. My read on that is IF SC were to fire their STC, they have a hotboard and Ek's name is on it, not necessarily because he has interest, but because he is good at his job.

This thread on Nebraska's 247 board worked for me despite me not having an account.

Here's the USC thread in question in case anyone has, or would be willing to get an account to read it.

Shit. I already made inquiries on behalf of NU to the crazy gum chewer SP coach of the Steelers.

I'll call them back.

E

Thanks for that. Also, I had forgotten how big of a dick “nustudent “ is
Thank Jank the Tank. After the intensity of a workday, it's a challenge to deep dive into much more than a few ridiculous comments on a random message board.

Geez, I'm starting to sound like Deano.

So I caved and paid for a month on their USC site to read the USC board thread linked above. It was bugging me that I was reading interpretations of the blocked thread without being able to verify what was being said.

According to the admin starting the thread, USC's front office wants to make some changes on special teams. I'm wording that intentionally. They want to make changes. They haven't yet though. Their current ST coach is still hired as of this point. Ekeler is the only one named in the thread as a "possible candidate". There are "other names" being considered, but it sounds like, according to the admins, Ek would be the guy they would like to reach out to first. But there "may be other candidates in the queue that (USC 247) hasn't heard about." They also mention he is from Nebraska, noting the local ties.

Nothing is said about mutual interest. So it still feels like a hot board that USC's front office is throwing darts at. I'll admit I would feel a bit better if they had other names to throw up there with his.

All in all, kind of a strange post for that much info on a position that has yet to be even be open. And I feel news like this would generally spread quicker through the Husker community than it has tonight.

@HuskerGarrett this might still be worth looking into.

Ekeler is great but it seems a little odd that, of all the guys in the country, they would just happen to throw his name out there.
