On that Zach Gelb show/podcast he just said they'd hire / promote from within. Martin has STC experience at SMU and was the main assistant ST coach this year below Ekeler, along with Maher.

I know the whole family, personally. His parents Jack and Judy are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meat. I’ll probably never be able to repay Jack (and Judy) for all of the nice things they did for my mother. Mostly cause Jack won’t accept it. And no, they don’t need money.

When you have a HC who has shown the ability to succeed with his staff yes. Unfortunately Rhules staff decisions have been pretty below average

In all seriousness, Jack would have shit fixed before Mike even finds out about it. And he definitely wouldn’t let Mike pay for it. Mike might offer, but no way he takes that money.

Video came off very "We don't need anyone else we can do it ourselves" only part was missing was "If they don't like it they can fire me".
He went from the coach who vehemently defended some of the worse coaches I’ve ever seen and even gave them different jobs too yea well pay him but we don’t really need him pretty quick lol
I mean, from the outside looking in, the only difference between going bunker and quiet quitting is the end result.
he didn't make "that much" at TN considering he was a position coach and STC. He was making an average P2 AC salary.
Went from having one of the best special teams coaches in the country to we got Josh Martin pretty quick 🤣.
350K moved up to 575K at TN, then to 625K with us, and offered top tier STC salary mid season plus time - to a guy who moved here to be close to family that would then go to California one year later?
It's an incredibly strange circumstance where the most likely issues are:
1. USC is bringing a BAG to the boy that takes him out of the STC only pay class
2. He is getting a larger role - in which case I can't understand why we wouldn't AHC his ass and take care of #1 also. Unless that larger role HAS to be LBs.
3. He and Rhule really don't get along - but going by the fact Rhule apparently saw it fit to extend and renegotiate him mid season, I just don't know that I buy that. Everyone pointing to the sideline thing - Rhule made it clear at the time, he loves Mike but just doesn't react the same ways he does. So maybe it's a Mike hates him thing...I don't fucking know...
It's just all very bizarre, honestly
