Playoffs Thread

Either way Vrabel will get good money. The question is does a guy like him want to screw with NIL and the portal when it’s the wild Wild West right now or deal with a pro team where you have more control with players. I’m guessing he would rather stay in the NFL.
That’s the x-factor. And I don’t even know if OSU would be interested, or if Vrabel would be. But if OSU is, they’d beat any NFL offer he’d get.

Could be but college fb gig is turning into a shit show with portal and NIL.

He made 9.5 million with the titans. If they beat the offer it wouldn’t be by much and with what they are spending on players I doubt they pay a lot more than 10 million a year for a coach. I think most coaches who have their choice now are overwhelmingly going to take a pro job over a college job if they have their choice with the way the portal and NIL aren’t regulated.

But they’ll give him years and money as a legacy and a coach with quality experience. The guaranteed money has proven to win out for people time and again

You’re overthinking that amount because it was after his success there, which was followed by a fair amount of failure. The NFL, as we see with Rhule’s contract, just hasn’t been as bold with years and pay as college has been for coaches. If OSU wants home, they’d beat any could pay whatever he wants, and give him more years than the NFL would too, Kraft isn’t, and never has been in the business of just doling out wild contracts. This is all wildly speculative anyways, as Day has given no indication of leaving, and I am not sure anyone thinks he’ll be a high demand NFL target.

Hell, Day loses the game tonight, maybe OSU doesn't want him back. With as much advantage as they have over pretty much every other program (most talent this year for sure, and most years has the best talent in CFB or in the top 2 or 3), doubt OSU is overly pleased with Day losing 4 straight years to Meatchicken, nor being able to win a championship. Now that they won tonight, and will be fairly heavy favorites to beat ND for the championship, they ain't likely kicking him to the curb. But his seat was definitely warm for a while already.

So even if Day hasn't given any indication, OSU would be far more likely to shitcan him than Day shitcan them. In fact, the thought of Day shitcanning OSU never entered my mind until it was brought up in this thread.

I don’t know where I read article today but it talked about him shit canning them. Maybe doing tv for awhile before finding right job.

Wasn't doubting you, but if Day was/is thinking that way, it is more likely that is because he knows he had to win in these playoffs to possibly keep his job, so he and his agent may have been putting out feelers. Dunno. I do know he has had an abundance of talent all over the roster to work with for years and has come up short. The continual losses to Meatchicken are the huge thorn to boot.

The fans are far different than the admin, bro. This is t akin to Cooper who lost multiple other games each season.. no excuse to lose to Michigan this year, but they’ve made up for it. A lot of folks thought they’d lose at home to Tennessee, and then it was a toss up vs Oregon, but they dominated. The 12 team playoff has created a new season, and their talent is winning it. Fans will adapt, and their admin will be more lenient if he performs in the playoff

All good man. All my Ohio State classmates been whining about him all year. Saying if he doesn’t win the national championship, he’s fired.

It’s an entitled fan base. And the losses to Michigan really fire them up. I don’t see him leaving on his own accord. But sure would be funny if they win it all and he gives them the big middle finger.

I get it. I know fans aren't admin, but they couldn't have been happy with the end results each Day season. Now that he has won twice in the playoffs, and likely to win against ND for a championship, it will definitely make that warm seat cold.

It for sure would be funny if that happened. He doesn't have that cache IMO, but you never know what a coach or admin is postioning for these days. Winning usually cures all, though. Would be funny if he won and shitcanned them though!

This is literally the only year they have a legitimate gripe before the playoff. Michigan had been very good before this year, and OSU had exceptional seasons. They’d have been insane to fire him based on results.
His records makes Osborne look pedestrian

I agree. But when admin and fans expect better - and OSU has had incredible talent to work with for a long time - their perception warps.

T.O. never had any advantages like OSU does. It is actually nuts how Nebraska stil russles so many other programs. It's not like we had all these advantages to work with, it was more the opposite. So a program that basically overachieved given their advantages or lack of, is hated by so many. Yet programs that have obvious huge advantages for decades don't russle up the hate as much.

OSU has been very good. Michigan also very good, but I'd posit that OSU pretty much always had more overall talent to work with. Those 4 straigt losses to Harbaugh and Michigan are tough for OSU to swallow. This year that loss is looking to be a speedbump because of the 12 team playoff. That changes a lot of things, making in-season losses not as detrimental to teams with top talent.

I was JUST having this conversation with someone today. Crazy that you bring it up.

I was saying it was a wonder that NU in the 1990s didn't attract more bandwagon fans (America loves a winner after all). NU went 60-3 over 5 yrs.

I think it is jealousy. Mid America regular folks are jealous that Nebraska did all that with no advantage. They should be proud but instead they are jealous. So they root against Nebraska bc Nebraska winning makes them feel worse about their own team not being able to do it.

They don't mind seeing OSU, USC, Bama do it bc in their mind their programs are a notch below theirs anyway.

It's jealousy. A lot of it is because we physically beat the crap out of them for so many years. And part of it is that we were able to do this with our lack of advantages, and they weren't.

Still doesn't make a lot of sense, though. Be mad at the programs with built-in advantages, not the overachiever. Is what it is, and really it is a compliment in a way that we still russle so many programs. And not just the fanbase, many actual programs still have some chip on their shoulder about us. We have sucked for over a decade, and they still like to circle our game on their calendar. We are 20 years past having a sniff at a nat championship level squad, and still relevant and hated by many. Kind of impressive in it's way.

This is exactly correct. tOSU people that I’ve talked to want him gone, even if they win it all!
