Since this thread is already full of 🔥 takes, I’ll add mine: Cignetti will be a 6–6 coach within a couple of years and will go the way of Gene Chizik and Jimbo Fisher.
Cig feels different, but I agree that 99% of the time these "immediate turn arounds" fizzle out after a few players graduate.

Barring some amazing xfer portal haul, next year will be brutal af
Sure could be. I was called out for basically saying that it would be highly unlikely that we are a ranked team next season.

Now, as you said if the portal can provide us with bonafide starters on the DL and OL as well as a RB, then perhaps we can get over the hump.
BUT....
There are several things working against us next year. Schedule, lack of DL/OL talent, new coaches across several critical areas (continuity), a complete rebuild on defense, a weakened rb room, and unfortunately a program that has been stuck in a quagmire of mediocrity for a decade. A lot to overcome.

That often happens when someone comes in and assumes a great roster. Cig came in with his own roster and has built from there. I think he's here to stay. Dude can coach! Arrogant as fvck but he can coach.

The new coaching hires give me some hope though. Will be an interesting season for sure.

That is for sure a hot take! Will be interesting to watch. They have a hell of a chance to win it all this year and that will will resonate well with recruits and portal players. I personally think he's done a great job, and like him or not, he knows how to win. He's proven it everywhere he's gone. He's a 143 - 37 as a HC. I don't see him falling off a cliff. 6-6 for him would be like a 2 win season for Rhule...complete disaster!
Bama giving em belt in Pasedena.

I picked Bama to win but honestly will not be surprised in the least if Indiana wins by 2 scores. Hard to pick against Bama because... well they're still Bama, but this Indiana team keeps shutting all of the doubters up. Will be fun to watch.

LOL how many years have we been saying this about the new coaching hires? I'm just going to sit back and watch how it unfolds. Getting some dudes up front will go along ways towards making these hires look good!

At the time, I viewed retaining Raiola and hiring Butler (as DC) & Bradden as serious mistakes. Don't get that feeling this time for Jeep, Aurich, Manning. ER would be a fantastic addition as well.

I honestly thought he’d take his first small step backward this year. That wasn’t even close to happening.

Now I don’t know if he’ll be able to sustain CCG finishes, in fact I highly doubt it. That said, he does this once every four years and wins 8+ every other year and he’ll still get a building named after him in Bloomington.

I hope you're right. I for one am ready for some consistency and continuity across the board at NUFB. We need to stay the course for a bit and let this program stabilize.

I think that it should be clear by now that Nebraska is not like OSU, BAMA, Georgia or other major players in college fb. We simply can not change leadership and systems and expect to win at a high level. Our recipe needs to be built on a solid foundation of systemic development; from players, to coaches, to philosophies, etc... . We will never build a program that is simply reliant on getting the best players and the hottest coaches of the moment. It is what it is!
