Panthers trade up for #1 pick

I’m not going to disagree. At the moment I certainly think the bears won, but I see where Carolina is coming from. A franchise qb changes everything.
If they were in the top 5 or so for cap space, I’d be on board. As it is, they are outside the top 10, so the holes they have aren’t filled through the draft (outside of QB) and they aren’t at all easy through FA because 12 teams have more coin to throw around. And their QB has shit targets to throw to.
Like I said, I get the desire to do a deal, but not when it hamstrings your possibilities like this. The GM may pull some crazy deals and find a way, but he has forced himself to do so, which isn’t an enviable position to be in.

Hypothetically 4 qbs go top 5 and the other pick is not Will Andsrson. Who do you take?
Detroit's biggest need is interior DL, IMO. So I'm hoping that Jalen Carter falls to them. If he's off the board, I'd go Christian Gonzalez.

Yes, they got a lot for the pick. I still think it was a mistake by the Bears - I don't see Justin Fields being a real and durable long-term solution at QB. That being the case, I think they'd have been better off long-term drafting a QB with the pick and trying to trade Fields for a WR.
The problem is nobody in this draft is better than fields

The fact this trade took place tells you the Bears don't believe there is a franchise QB in this draft or they wouldn't have made the trade.

It will be interesting now to see if the Bears go after Lamar when that process opens 3/15. They have to be one of the few teams that could give up the two first rounders and still have a first rounder next year.

Or it tells you they believe they have a franchise qb in fields and wanted to load up with talent around him for the future which I believe is true. The guy was putting up crazy stats on a shit team last year. If they build around him Fields will tear it up.

I should have tagged the only other Panthers fan on the board, @Seaofred92

I'm skeptical Fields is the answer either but I don't think the Bears are. Oline has been absolutely horrid the last two years. Get some help there and now have a pretty good group of receivers. We'll see.

Totally agree. Need to put more playmakers around Fields and get him some protection. Also, design some more quick plays and get him outside the pocket.

Stroud has a shot to be a franchise QB.

I will always worry about Day and Riley kids making that adjustment mentally to the next level.

Young just reminds me too much of Tua. Which I don't think very highly of.
Tua actually showed he wasn’t garbage last year. The issue with him is his body size and the concussions. I don’t see him playing a lot younger. Young’s size is also the main question. The other knock was skipping the combine drills. I will say he did a great job of avoiding big hits in college but it’s the pros. Outside of his size, Young has some pretty good skills.

Yeah if you could guarantee me Tua doesn't get another concussion I'd take him over a lot of other NFL qb's.
