We went down to Cooper Landing along the Kenai River. It really is an epic place with one major downfall. There are always tons of people and everything is basically shoulder to shoulder until end of September. You miss out on the legalized snagging of sockeye but I always tell people they should visit Alaska end of August through mid September. The weather generally isn't cold during the day and everything isn't as "busy". Plus the fishing can be pretty good if you time it right. We did not time it right as we were basically fishing in holes that 10+ people had already fished over a 12 hour stretch.
