The problem is will SEC do the same. They seem to water down their schedules more.
I assume Big 10 will make more $$$$ with another conference game, SEC will just get farther behind if they don’t

there was an interesting post that said that Fox was trying to use ESPN's financial weakness right now as an opportunity to get premier programs away from them. Said the B1G wants to maintain its academic profile, and Fox is actually doing things (what I don't know) behind the scenes to make some of the better football schools qualify academically for the B1G. Said the B1G wants Stanford and Cal. Said if, by chance, the ACC unravels this month, there could be as many as 4 ACC schools coming but that Cal and Stanford would also come in order to get the B1G to agree.

If the B1G is taking premier ACC programs to keep them away from ESPN they are likely paying too much (my opinion) and Fox is much more likely to ask for ten conference games to lift the overall quality of the games they choose to broadcast.

How much, though? CFB timeslots are limited, and Fox already has enough inventory to cover those. This would increase the quality of the top of the inventory - what would that be worth? Something incrementally, but I have no idea how much more.

Well I hope you get out of there soon brother! Somewhere that makes you and your family happy.

Thank you!

And sorry for the long winded rants... I've had my fill of this place, as is I am sure very obvious.

My brother moved down to the florida keys 6 months ago (he was still in NE Nebraska all these years). He is loving it there so far, and there is abundant opportunity. Once I am past needing to be here for kid reasons, I will find a better destination. Not sure where that will be yet.
I never lived there, but have friends who live there. I grew up 3 hrs east of there in Columbus.
I'm stop in Columbus quite often to fill up gas on my way to or back from Nebraska, or if one of the kids needs a bathroom stop. Seems a very nice area. I often take I90 all the way until the Reliance (south dakota) exit then south from there through Gregory, Spencer and O'neill to the Norfolk area. It is faster to take the Broadus cutoff route, but that two lane road is not nearly as easy of a drive as I90, and often has lots of semi traffic. But saves 45 minutes and about 30 miles.

Moving the B1G to 10 games while the SEC is still at 8 would be a dumb move, unless we’re prepared to see them get 5 teams in the playoffs and us 2 or 3.

SEC plays is smart with their pansy out of conference scheduling. B1G going to 10 conference games is tough... a gauntlet of a season schedule to get through.

This ^^^^

A 10th conference game creates even more prime inventory for the networks, which equals a lot more $$$$$$

The SEC would have moved to 9 games if ESPN would have paid for it. They didn’t. Fox didn’t pony up to add UO or UW. I have a feeling they aren’t going to pay for more right now.

I think Fox did pony up for UO and UW - the contract has an escalator apparently. But it's not pro rata. The other 32 teams lose 2m a year because of taking the two PNW schools according to what I saw. That's about half of what they'll get paid based on what is publicly known. But that 2m could also just be increased travel costs for existing members, in which vase Fox picked up the entire half-share. Or something in between.

I don't believe the B1G would ever have approved their entry if Fox didn't pay more. Existing members don't get anything but increased competition otherwise.

Perhaps we have different definitions, here. Neither school is getting a full share and the existing schools in the conference are getting less base money (in theory made up for the extra bowl money distribution). Doesn’t sound like Fox ponied up.

If you’re saying they gave some money, then yes that appears to be the case. But they didn’t go out of their way to make this happen.
