Breaking Oregon and Washington to the B1G

We stayed in Santa Monica too. Enjoyed it more than the fancy west Hollywood hotel. Living in one of those houses in Venice Beach would be cool but out of my range. My friend lives in Pasadena and that was alright too. Would have loved to see some of the places further outside of LA like Redlands.

I'm a weirdo though and really liked Butte MT despite it being a total shit hole.

Agree, Butte is a shit hole, but it was once was a copper mining town at one time. If I ever move back, it would probably live in Red Lodge.

Wait, we have two board members here who have lived in Butte, MT??

I only visited for work. Super interesting place. You can open carry (alcohol) on the street and gamble in bars/restaurants. There's an Anthony Bourdain episode featuring Butte. I went to the bar in the episode. It was early March. Pretty cold out 10pm or so. The owner was tending bar. There was one regular there, and the bar cat chilling on the bar top. The owner had a stew going on the cast iron stove. Offered me some which I gladly accepted. Told the owner I was from Lincoln, he instantly knew the zoo bar so we talked about that for a bit. The regular rolled me a cigarette and we all enjoyed a conversation outside. Drank some cheap whisky and tipped well. Magical place. Learned to roll my own cigarettes after that bc it was embarrassing bumming one and needing it to be rolled for me bc I didn't know how. Real life skills can be acquired in Butte, MT.

Also interestingly it's a surprisingly blue city despite it's size and location because of the pro union attitudes from the mining days. Not modern democrats more like old school democrats, no nonsense type shit. Really good people. Reminded me of my grandpa and father who were factory men.

I've lived here - outside of town because Butte is an absolute shithole - for 22 years now.

This town sucks complete ass. All of the things you said - sounds like a soundbyte from some kind of fairytale narrative concocted by the few money families that run and have kept this town down for so long.

The town is corrupt. The society is absolute dogshit. There are nice people anywhere, but this place has waaaay more bullshit trash than anywhere I have ever seen. When I go back to Nebraska, the stark difference in society and people is large between Butt (the asshole of Montana) and anywhere in Nebraska that I have seen.

You have to have lived here to understand it. Bassackwards society. Little mans syndrome gone wild with the people in this town. I only stick around because of my kids. Worst decision I ever made was moving here 22 years ago.

And don't get me wrong, I love Montana and the mountains, but Butte is a complete, corrupt, drug-riddled, drunken, trashy dump. I have no reason to make this shit up, this place has kept itself down by it's own corruption, feeding a dumb-assed narrative from a few money families to too many dumbasses buying that stupid narrative as they live in houses that should have been bulldozed 60 years ago, and were dumps even when they were built. This town talks tough, but they aren't a tenth as tough as they talk. Growing up on a large hog farm in NE Nebraska - I take Nebraska tough over these chumps any day of the week.

For sure, I definitely noticed it was a shit hole. I just think shit holes are more interesting to visit sometimes.

I visited here many times before moving here. My wife, who was originally from here, warned me when I decided to move us here - in her words "are you sure you know what you are doing moving us to Butte Montana?". I said, look, I grew up on a hog farm in NE Nebraska, I am sure I can handle Butte, MT. She said I didn't know what she really meant - and she was right. Even having visited here many times before moving, I didn't grasp what this place actually is. It didn't take me too long (maybe 6 months, a year at most) to realize what she meant.

In any case, I won't be here forever. I would have moved long ago, but again, kids being here still keeps me here. There is not much, in all honesty, that is good to say about Butte Montana. The society is absolute shit overall (again, there are good people everywhere in spite of shit societies they might live in). The town is corrupt as hell overall and the few money familes (mostly from the old mining days) have kept any progress out of the town (to the money families benefit), which has kept the economy shitty. The weather/climate is one of the worst in the lower 48. I am talking honest 8+ months of actual, true, winter weather. November through even April can be cold as balls. We get about a month, month and a half of "summer" here. It has snowed here several times on the 4th of July since I have lived here. Think about that for a bit - snow on the fucking 4th of July.

Yes, Butte is in the Rocky mountains, but holy hell, there are no natural water sources, rivers or lakes here - meaning you have to drive 45 minutes minimum to get to nicer places with water sources. It is a high, dry, arid basin that still happens to get tons of snow in spite of being dry and arid otherwise. And the mining has made the entire area and absolute toxic waste dump. And much of that toxicity has been covered up or downplayed for going on a century now by money players/people/Gov. Cancer rates are extremely high here.

I LOL when people talk about "out of staters" ruining Montana. For fuck sake, have you looked at your town?!? You swim in your own cesspool that you made. It's not being "ruined" by the few out of staters that are dumb enough to move here. If a place isn't progressing, it is regressing and dying. Most out of staters moving here anyway are doing so to get away from the coastal societies, so really they kind of fit in more than is admitted.

I could go on. I have no/zero reason to have this opinion of Butte besides the fact that what I described is what it is. I love Montana and the mountains, but moving to Butte specifically was the biggest mistake of my life.

Well I hope you get out of there soon brother! Somewhere that makes you and your family happy.

I’m sure this has been said, but Oregon State and Wazzu deserve to be left behind for giving us fucking Mike Riley and Bill Moos.
I rather blame Barry Alvarez for recommending Eichorst that started this whole collapse. I feel bad for Wazzu since it’s a nice college town surrounded by lots of wheat fields.

I'm still not going to exchange dick pics with you! Sorry!
