From Bruntz at 247:

Bolt just announced that it will be:

Friday: Sears

Saturday: Walsh

Sunday: Clark

Christo will be available out of the bullpen this weekend -- he's not hurt, but didn't feel well a week or two ago. Bolt said his last appearance was good, however. Casey Daiss will likely close to start the season, but lots of bullpen options. Bolt said freshmen Tucker Timmerman and Tyner Horn will be out of the bullpen early on.

Bolt thinks we have some really good leaders on the team, compared them to 2021 outfielder group.

Seems like we have been lacking leadership the last 2 years

Yes. If Hawks or Den Hartog are unavailable they'll work out at Memorial.

It's not often they're allowed there, ot that it's needed, but they've been using it for several years. More so under Erstad because Hartog wasn't turf under him.
They go all the way to Hartog for practice? Wouldn't Sherman be easier?

I think it's key for our freshman to build up confidence against weaker opponents earlier in the year. No need to have a freshman pitcher start this weekend and possibly ruin his confidence to start the year. We got Grand Canyon next week and that's a 4 game series. Maybe Timmerman gets a start then since it sounds like he's been impressive in practice.

I am a fan of bringing freshman along incrementally as the season goes along and not just throwing them out there. College hitters are just different than HS. You can still make a great pitch and pay for it and you certainly won't get away with misses as much. You have to learn to battle through it.

I pitched in college for the one year I was there (not D1). In HS I had one homerun hit off me in the 4 years I pitched.

Very first pitch I threw as a college pitcher against a Kansas JUCO team was a perfect fastball (I threw upper 80s and low 90s if I put everything on it) at the knees on the outside black and the leadoff hitter took it over the right field fence. Coach yelled from the dugout, "Welcome to college ball son". It was a good lesson. Next 3 guys grounded out 🙂

Some crazy news; CJ Hood, kicked off in 2023, is the Friday starter for Long Beach State & Jaxon Jelkin, kicked off in 2022, is the Friday starter for Houston.
I don't remember CJ Hood but wasn't Jelkin pitching really well at one point? Then got kicked off because of weed or someting

Yeah if I remember right Jelkin was on a pretty solid hot streak when he was suddenly given the boot. I thought Hood left on his own accord, but regardless.

Hood rarely showed up on time and the staff finally had enough. Suspended & scholarship pulled moving forward. (Always hurt though) He could've stayed, with a few off-the-field stipulations & walked on, but chose to leave. Let me put it this way; Hood's brother Byron (former Husker) married Childress' daughter and Childress was in full agreement with the situation. That says it all to me.

Ya, Jelkin was doing okay as a true freshmen in a limited role. I felt then, and still do now, he had the best stuff on the 2022 team and would've really pushed Olson for the Friday spot last season. He'd be our #1, by far, to begin this season. But, he couldn't pass enough "NCAA tests" and UNL got involved in the end which resulted in letting him go. It was out of the coaches hands at that point.
