Art Briles legitimately couldn't keep a job in the CFL or at like Grambling because of his baggage. He's DOA as a candidate

Lots of people have done that lately. But DeBoer is really impressive on paper because he's made it all the way from NAIA HC to power 5 HC and I don't think he's got any connections that helped him do it. But he hasn't spent a lot of time recruiting in major conferences and he has no P5 track record yet.

I think people forget also he just got hired as the HC at Washington

Whitingham is someone I’d seriously kick the tires on. Utah has an identity and one I think our fan base would be happy with. And he’s got to be figuring out what his options are as his paycheck and prospects of big time games could be diminishing in the future PAC 12. Not sure he wants to find himself back in the WAC or MWC. I think his approach counters Cockeye and Wisconsin well, especially when combined with the talent we can bring in.

Aranda is my second choice. I like that he’s done well as a HC early on, and as a DC everywhere he’s been. He seems straight laced so hopefully no hidden baggage. If he does what we want, then he’d be creating a stable job. And given how horrible Frost has been yet given every opportunity, that has to be enticing for someone worried about not being given enough time.

I totally get that sentiment.

He took a job at a high school in Texas a few years ago as head football coach and athletic director. It happens to be my alma mater, Mt Vernon, TX. I have spoken with people from there and they had nothing but good things to say about the way he ran the entire athletic department. He basically turned both the girls and boys athletic programs around in just a 2 year span. A lot of them had reservations that he was just there to repair his image but they said he worked his ass off.

Now Mt. Vernon...2 years after he has left is a true contender at the state level in football, basketball and girls basketball. I talked to one of their assistants this summer and he said it's all because of Briles. He said he was nothing like he was portrayed in the media.

I knew about Briles from his years at Stephenville. Played college football with a lot of guys that played high school ball for him. They all had nothing but good to say as well.

I realize that we're talking about the high school level. And even though I'd take Briles as the head coach in a heart beat, I know that for an admin to touch him would be a PR nightmare and it isn't going to happen. In my opinion if the Baylor fiasco doesn't happen the way it did, we'd be talking about Art Briles being one of the top 3-4 coaches in the nation. I think he's that good.

Hire O'Brien we'd have two guys on the staff who graduated from Brown on the staff (at least temporarily) - Whipple (Class of '79) and O'Brien (Class of '82) who both coached on HC Whipple's 1994 Brown staff (O'Brien was AC - ILB). Plus, I believe Ron Brown (Class of '79) is still a Nebraska offensive analyst who also coached at Brown (not on the '94 staff, of course).
