October recruiting thread

Huh? Of course I want good football players. We should’ve told Rouse we’ll pay you more than anyone else is offering. He had a bunch of P5 starts. I’m talking about the kids who aren’t seeing the field at a P5 school that want to transfer here. I’m happy to tell Kaden Helm or the kid from auburn who was at Bell West thanks but no thanks. Had your chance, you’re not playing for them after two years, why should we spend 1/85 on you? Those are the types of portal guys I don’t want to see us taking over HS kids. We shouldn’t be some sloppy seconds safety net for Nebraska kids who hold an offer out of HS, go somewhere else, don’t see the field, and want to come back home.
I misunderstood then. We're in agreement but just because they aren't seeing the field where they are currently, doesn't mean they couldn't still come here and have a pretty immediate impact. Maybe they're just buried on the depth chart because they have someone who is a stud with seniority above them. However I think we are all tired of the "coveted" portal guys that come here and then basically don't contribute. We have to hope Rhule and this staff truly are good evaluators of talent so that we can greatly minimize the frequency in which that happens.

Kindholz would be a great porno chick's name.

Felicity Kindholz.

my other concern is this. They don’t seem great at identifying talent. Sims was a whiff and they went all in on him. How do you look at our tackles and not tell 1890 to throw everything at Rouse or the kid from Rhode Island? MJ Sherman is just depth. Same with Borders (I know he’s young). Kemp is just a guy.

How do you know they didn't do that with Rouse? It's not a video game where you just click a button for money and they automatically will come to your school. If you are a high ranking transfer you also probably want a clearer path to the NFL and a better guarantee of a winning season. From all measures it looks like Rouse made the correct choice.

The widely held belief here and everywhere else was he decommitted from Nebraska because OU countered with more money. I don’t know that for sure and doubt many do, but that’s been the story. And I believe it, sounds like we don’t have/aren’t spending money to be competitive with the high end transfer portal targets.

You have to nail HS recruiting. The vast majority of high end players never transfer so you have to get them in HS almost always.

Next most important is the fat pot of NIL money you need to have for high end transfers at key positions. Money alone won't get them to come but you have to be prepared to be competitive.

After you nail those two use the rest of the portal potty to fill out the roster and take projects you like. But most transfers should be guys who are immediately protectable into important roles. Kemp, Sherman, etc. don't fit the high end talent piece but they helped this season. That bar should move up over time as you build a better team
