Nebrasketball vs Ohio St

@hothouse_corn that was me. Dude was 4-12 (33%) from the field, 1-6 from 3pt (16%), 1 reb, 3 fouls and a total of 11 pts with a total of 12 shots.

I actually said it was just the few games I watched that I didn't underatand why he gets a lot of minutes. He makes a lot of mistakes. I didn't watch this game, but the stat line isn't exactly "take a lap and extra lap" type numbers.

On the season, he's the second most valuable player on the team behind Walker. I'll leave up to each individual to decide if and how many laps should be taken.

I don't care what numbers or Good Will Hunting type of problem solving they create. No way Tominaga is more important than Gary and Griesel. No way your number 2 guy is coming off the bench on a .500 team. I guess I must watch the only games where he struggles.

I think you have to take basketball advanced metrics differently than baseball WAR type stats. The BPMV and WS/40 don't really tell you too much about individual players, but more about how the team performed when the individuals were on the court. The stats also don't take into account the other four on the court at the time.

My take from those stats is that NU plays best when Walker, followed by Tominaga, are on the court. What the circumstances that align to make that happen are, I don't know. Griesel, Gary, and Bandoumel played so many minutes that it might fuck the stat calculation. IDK.

I think if you took all the B1G rosters and put them in a pool, then had a 14 team draft from that pool, Tominaga wouldn't make the starting lineup for any of the 14 teams. I'd obviously choose Walker, Griesel, Bandoumel, and Gary before him.

As president and founder of the Keisei International Fan Club, the hill I will die on is that he is fun to watch when things are going well.

You're right here. Kesei's advanced stats greatly benefit from the fact that he's not so important that Fred can't bench him when he's not playing well. Gary and Griesel don't have that luxury.

The advanced stats do tell us that despite the regular "he sucks and he's not a big ten player" outbursts that Keisei is actually pretty valuable to the team when he's on the court

Thank you for making my point more concisely and more clearly than I did.

When you have a fairly pedestrian team like NU 2022-23, it's nice to have a guy you can bench if he's having an off night. It is also nice if the guy you can bench is a solid contributor on his good nights.

What Tominaga brings to the team imo is more than shooting. The whole team moves more when he’s in the game. His energy seems to be infectious.

His movement off the ball, especially. He opens up the floor a lot and draws some fouls when he is moving off of the ball. Not to mention he is essentially a 100% FT shooter.
