Washut’s Nebrasketball news & notes
***I confirmed Nebraska is no longer recruiting 2025 Oak Hill (Va.) Academy center Francis Chukewudebelu. The 6-foot-10 three-star was scheduled to officially visit NU this weekend, but the Huskers are no longer recruiting him.

***The same is true for 2025 Casper (Wyo.) College guard Abdul Bashir. The Omaha native officially visited for the Colorado football game weekend, but that recruitment has since fizzled out.

***To keep the positive recruiting vibes rolling, I’m also not hearing great things about where Nebraska stands with 2025 Link Prep (Mo.) forward A’mare Bynum.

The Huskers are still actively recruiting the four-star from Omaha, but his situation continues to change with new teams joining the mix. Louisville just offered Bynum, and he was already scheduled to take six official visits.

We’ll see how things play out there, but the more competition that gets involved and the longer things play out, the less I like Nebraska’s chances.

***As you can see, some notable names have been scratched off Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting board this week. At this point, I expect the Huskers to do most of their work in this class through the transfer portal.

I see them prioritizing multi-year transfers, filling out remaining immediate needs to one-and-done transfers, and possibly adding a late project or two from the high school ranks.

Roster retention will again be paramount for the 2025-26 roster.

This weekend’s Nebraska basketball visitor list
***While Chukewudebelu is off the board, Nebraska is bringing in a slew of unofficial visitors this weekend for Friday’s “Opening Night” event and the Rutgers football game.

Here’s the list:

2026

Jaidyn Coon, G/F, Storm Lake (Cockeye)

William Gerdes, PF, Cedar Falls (Cockeye)

Jacob Webber, G/F, Kearney (Neb.)

Colin Rice, G/F, Waukee (Cockeye) Northwest

Ethan Joling, G/F, Hortonville (Wis.)

Landon Davis, PF, Waukee (Cockeye) Northwest

Major Mosser, G/F, Millard (Neb.) North

Cael LaFrentz, C, Decorah (Cockeye)

2027

Hunter Nepple, G/F, Hastings (Neb.) Adams Central

***Again, I’ll have plenty more in Friday’s normal Tunnel Talk. It’s a big week for hoops!

Doesn’t he know we beat Purdue last year?

Is there something fundamentally wrong with Fred trying to hit grand slams in HS recruiting and if they don't work out taking good college players in the portal?

I'd like to know what happened with Bashir, but Chumbawumba looks like a dude who we bring in, he can't do much, and he goes to San Jose State
Bashir’s recruitment became a bag off, and Nebraska is 1) not equipped for a bag off and 2) not interested in recruiting guys just looking to go to the highest bidder.

A poster on ON3 is saying behind the scenes there's either issues, or maybe not well liked, or maybe he's not that good regarding Janowski. The poster is very cryptic and it's the whole "I know something and am going to put it out there but I refuse to tell anyone" routine. Anyone know anything or heard something about this since this is the board where we can actually discuss this stuff? I also wouldn't be surprised at all if it's bullshit.

Robin seems to claim that Nebraska loves him so idk. But maybe Stevie's boy has some Aaron Craft in him that makes people want to feed him into a wood chipper

I guess I was under the opposite impression.

Either way, dude is being a prick

Idk anything behind the scenes but I do recall reading around Wisconsin boards prior to/following his commitment that Janowski always had a reputation for being a bit of a douchebag in high school. Now was this sour grapes/exaggerated idk, but it was stated by multiple posters on multiple threads so I tend to think only on inference that the kid isn’t exactly a Boy Scout.

IMO if this is all it is I really don't see it as that big of a deal. Maybe he'd have trouble fitting in with the team, I guess that could be an issue long term. Players have their egos and for some of them that can be what makes them so good. I don't remember which board it was, but I read the same about Frager last spring.

Since he went somewhere besides Nebraska, it's indisputably & scientifically true, and probably the reason we cooled.

This may be a dumb question. But why is basketball struggling with NIL money?
