Part of this is also that high school recruiting now is more high risk. Allocating too much NIL money to high school kids who don’t pan out is a worse ivestment than using NIL in the portal

I care very little about high school recruiting in basketball. There is a high probability that the high school kid you sign will not be here in two years.

The biggest upside of high school recruiting now is missing out on a kid who doesn’t pan out wherever he decides to go and possibly getting him as a bounce back due to your previous relationship.

That’s exactly right. You can’t ignore them of course. But I think the end game is that you’re positioning yourself for when he transfers. Bynam might be a solid example in a few years.

THIS. Fred is playing Moneyball with our NIL money. He would much rather have an older, experienced team...which means spreading around the NIL money in the portal.

Plus the cultural rot of bringing in a kid from Omaha risks undoing not only the progress Fred has made but perhaps the moral values of Western Nebraska

I remember years back there was a BYU player that got suspended during the NCAA tournament because he banged his girlfriend in campus housing. It was during the Jimmer days and they had a nice squad.
Yeah. Brandon Davies. You see football players get popped from time to time too. Dunno that I'd be gung ho about going to BYU under any circumstances if I wasn't Mormon

The rest of our class is going to be transfer portal unless another prospect comes up in the spring. But, just FYI Robin said this morning Amare Bynum is going to be Ohio St bound.
WTF. I am prepared to lose Nebraska blue chippers to the powers of college basketball. But freakin Ohio State has been, like, the averagest of average teams in the Big Ten. Hell the last two years they’ve were 5-15 and 9-11 in the Big Ten, finishing behind Nebraska both years. We had a better overall record both years, too. WTF are we doing losing Nebraska kids to those nobodies?

Your tragic mistake is that you've assumed Omaha kids are Nebraskans.

I have it on good authority that several are considering going to play college hoops in the Gaza strip to avoid playing in Lincoln

But also, money
