Game Thread Nebrasketball Game #16: @ Purdue: Sunday, January 12 - 11:00am BTN

I'm still in on Loenser. It's apparent to me that our D runs mostly on vibes at home.

It does much better at home bc when you're a road shooter, any slight difference can throw you off your game (different arena, tighter rims, bad hotel bed, home crowd, etc). NBA shooters know how to mentally deal with this. CBB shooters largely don't.

When you're at home, any good CBB shooter can light it up though.

Loenser has a little false confidence in his D bc it works great at home. He needs to realize that it's the same D home and away. Ex. Cockeye/Purdue games.

I’m definitely not out on Loenser - he’s done a great job to this point and I think he’s incredibly smart and talented

But the scheme does require tweaking - it makes it essentially impossible for us to beat high level teams on the road/neutral (and our record against these teams since he’s been here bares this out).

It’s no different than say Rhule & Butler going from the 3-3-5 to 4-3 because he didn’t like our situational defense on 3 and Long and in the red zone. Doesn’t mean the coaches were “bad” - just a schematic change that is needed

We just don’t have a threat shooting the 3 and a lot of the teams are forcing us to shoot deep while taking away the inside. The ability to generate is what’s killing us this year.

Yep.

On top of that, Williams was guarded by a 6'0" Chechen on switches and not one time did we draw something up to get him in the post and expose it. Especially when Connor is on the court to keep their defense honest (see UCLA game where they refused to leave him alone). How that didn't happen is beyond me.

For the first time ever, we matched up well with them in the post & nothing was drawn up. Their post defense is weak AF, too. Berke & Braxton have to give us better post play on the offensive side. Both dudes have the physical traits.

Sad to say, but next time we're on the road against a legit PG - Sammy needs to start and Rollie comes off the bench. He's too big of a liability for us defensively as we can't expect Williams to handle it for us & be our top scorer/distributor.

So frustrated with this team with our 3 B1G road games. Get beat, fine but for fucks sake - SHOW SOME PRIDE!

Dumb take

very dumb take and tiresome as well
Honestly if NU hoops can get to NCAA tournament every 1 out of 3 yrs and go like 18-15 NIT the other 2 yrs....Fred can coach here for another 50 yrs AFAIC.

I like Fred and he doesn't embarrass our program w his conduct. We're putting SO much $$ into football I don't know that you can expect much more from Nebrasketball than that.

I'd be happy if we invested more into bball
