And it’s not a secret now. I think most that are halfway plugged into Omaha high school basketball know that most likely would have happened. It wasn't a secret back then.

I think this is spot on.Fred isn't getting fired one year after being B1G coach of the year and because of the extension. He hit in the portal on Essegian, Berke, and Morgan. Everyone else was a miss. I think Meah could do good things, but we appear to be trying to make him fit Hoiberg's system instead of trying to play to Meah's strength. I do think Griffiths has potential, but his confidence is shot and when he does play, he looks nothing like he did at Rutgers last year. At Rutgers he came on towards the end of the year and was confident. I have no inside info, but I'd be surprised if Griffiths isn't back in the portal after the season.
Fred is going to have to earn it this off-season. He can't afford to miss in the portal like he did this year. With Williams and Gary gone he needs to bring in a couple scoring guards. I do think Essegian, Berke, and Mast, assuming they all come back, is a nice core to build a team around. Many may see this as an excuse, but I don't think it can be understated how much this team misses Mast. I've said that since the Saint Mary's game.
Depending on how these final 11 games go my opinion may change to be NCAA Tournament or bust next year. But right now, for next year, I think anything less than a top 12 finish in conference should mean that Fred is gone.
Fred was coaching for his job last year. It doesn’t just end because he had one good season. By and large, Fred’s tenure at Nebraska has been terrible. If he gets fired at the end of this season, I don’t think many will think Nebraska was wrong for doing it.I think this is spot on.
From an optics standpoint, you can't have a program as historically shitty as Nebrasketball sack their HC just one season after being B1G COY. It just looks bad. And furthers the perception that our fanbase is unrealistic and thinks we should be winning national titles every year (Paul Finebaum).
If you're Dannen you absolutely have to bring Hoiberg back next year. Give him one more chance to bring in some actual athletes, instead of the cast of Average Joe's Gym from Dodgeball.
As an aside, I do wonder how much fire Hoiberg has left. He has to be getting beat down by the rinse and repeat he's doing every year. And it hasn't worked most of the time he's been here. And he hasn't found his Georges Niang yet and it doesn't look like he will

Remember, the Big Ten's epicenter is in Chicago. He's well known there.Fred was coaching for his job last year. It doesn’t just end because he had one good season. We're not going to fire him this year. Only way Dannen can possibly do that is if he has an absolute home run guy locked down, but that's like .001%.Remember, the Big Ten's epicenter is in Chicago. He's well known there.
Fred Hoiberg played CBB in Cockeye. Then played NBA in Indiana, Chicago and Minnesota. Then coached NBA in Chicago. Fred has literally lived his entire professional life in the B1G geography. He's very well known in the Big Ten footprint. All of the coaches and TV analysts in the Big Ten know him well.
If Nebraska fires him this year that will NOT go down well with anyone who has access to a TV mic, radio mic, or reporters notepad around the Big Ten. I don't think it would be a good look for Nebrasketball to fire him now. I think we'd get roasted throughout the B1G. After next season, fine. I would not do it now.
Not to mention among other HCs.
You may not like it but he's not wrong. You're still doing this?
you both are extremely smart, holy fucking shitYou may not like it but he's not wrong.
I said this all offseason in here and got clowned 😂 retards really though taking a bunch of dudes who weren’t good at there last schools and throwing them together would work..For the life of me I can't understand why anyone thought this roster would be a good one. It was basically trying to paper mache a team together with whatever leftover stuff you could find. No surprise to me that it has crumbled.

Congrats on never being wrong. It only took 20 games into the season for you to chime inI said this all offseason in here and got clowned 😂 retards really though taking a bunch of dudes who weren’t good at there last schools and throwing them together would work..
Make no mistake, coaching circles wouldn't bat an eye if Fred was let go. It's very well known he's lived the majority of his time here on the hot seat, and the general thought last year was "holy shit he actually saved his job, let's see how the year after goes..." No one in coaching would give a single fuck if he was let go. If you ask anyone in CBB coaching their thought on the situation they will tell you about his cupcake scheduling to give the illusion of significant improvement in the W column (sorry to keep saying that over and over, but it's just the consense thought on it...)Fans would be indifferent. CBB coaching circles not as much.

That's not what I expected when I saw the notification haha. I'm crying laughing at this GIF usage
Right, a majority of them didn't end up at major schools out of high school. People would've freaked the hell out if we were recruiting most of these guys out of high school.Hoiberg ignore half those kids. It is literally his own fault that they didn’t end up in Lincoln. A majority of them didn’t end up at major schools out of high school.
Couldn’t agree more with this. Everyone who says we’d get laughed at for firing a coach 1 year removed from being co-coach of the year seem to forget he’s 2 years removed from taking a pay cut to keep his job.Make no mistake, coaching circles wouldn't bat an eye if Fred was let go.
