Less than a week after Nebraska’s 20-15 win over Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl, the Husker coaching staff is already back to work reshaping its roster for the 2025 season.

On Sunday, On3 confirmed that Kentucky wide receiver Hardley Gilmoreofficially signed with the Huskers, giving them 12 transfer portal additions for this cycle.

NU is now set to host two more portal visitors who will arrive on Thursday. Transfer targets were allowed to begin taking visiting again starting on Jan. 1.

Earlier this week, On3 confirmed Auburn defensive lineman TJ Lindsey was set to come in. On Sunday, HuskerOnline confirmed another big-time Power Four visitor making his way to campus.

UCLA defensive back Jaylin Davies confirmed to HOL that he is set to arrive in Lincoln on Thursday and leave on Saturday.

Davies, a 6-foot, 180-pound corner, has played 40 career games for the Bruins (2022-24) and Oregon (2021).

He has one year of eligibility remaining. Over his career, he has 108 total tackles, four interceptions and 11 pass breakups. He’s logged 1,571 defensive snaps, according to PFF, with season grades of 69.2 (2022), 68.9 (2023), and 61.2 (2024).

Other portal names to watch for Nebraska

The only other tentative visitor set to come to Nebraska in the coming days is Appalachian State defensive tackle Joshua Donald, who announced he’s visiting NU on Jan. 6.

The 6-foot-1, 320-pound Donald is a true nose who’s played for Southern and App State the last three seasons. He’s logged 790 snaps over the previous three seasons, including 407 for the Mountaineers.

Another key target Nebraska continues to await word on is Washington State tackle Fa’alili Fa’amoe.

The fuck is the thought process behind Davies. He's gone from bad to worse, each year.

I guess he was playing for UCLA but still

Ceyair Wright Part 2? Worked out pretty well.
Arik Gilbert Part 2? Robbed some vape shops

I have no idea how he'd work out. My belief coming into the portal was that they've taken a ton of HS DBs and some of them should be ready to contribute next season and that portal retreads are always not going to be future NFL dudes for the most part.

In short, get me some fucking NFL dudes

The Great and Glorious Roster Improvement Project is well underway.

If I were the coach at Nebraska I would simply only recruit future first round draft picks.

I wouldn't actively recruit dudes very hard who have no chance of making it. That's for sure

That’s pretty hard to quantify.

Every year guys from FCS and even DIII get drafted and didn’t get a sniff from FBS schools.

I get going after the best of the best first, but you have to recruit the players you can land as well. Right now that’s not the top 5% at every position for Nebraska. Maybe it’s never been. I agree we don’t need to float scholarships to guys who are a stretch to play at the FCS level, but we’re not limiting our recruiting to sure fire future draft picks…if we want to fill our 105 man roster that is.

My perspective is that the guys who are in their 4th, 5th, 6th years of college should only be used to patch critical needs because they're not top end talent.

Right now for us, the best path to acquiring the best players we can is going to be through identification of high school recruits who we believe have some probability of becoming NFL players one day. What the portal DB recruiting is signalling to me is either that A. The high school recruits they've signed since Rhule got here are too green to play next year or B. They aren't good

But if you want to win at high levels, you've gotta have a secondary that looks an awful lot like some of Bo's with multiple NFL dudes and at the moment I'm not seeing it as likely for next season
