I never like to defend Dean, but I don’t find that super unbelievable. I do think Nebraska has plenty of money, which is evidenced by (so far) keeping the majority of our young talent locked in and still hitting on some key targets. But, I think we are in recruiting battles with other teams with comparable money, or in some cases more. And then when you compare the states of those particular programs to ours, as well as stuff like location, then it isn’t that hard to see why they aren’t picking us.

Missouri for example doesn’t really have much more to offer in terms of location, but they have just as much money as we do (backed by the Walton’s or something like that). And then add on to that they have been winning much more than we have, it isn’t that hard to understand players picking them over us. Especially the guys with only 1 year left.

I also think a lot of teams are still trying to figure out the best way to allocate the money they do have. Do you spend a majority of your transfer money on 1 guy (like the tackle), or do you pass on a super high priced guy/need so you can better fill out more needs with potentially lesser talent?

Nebraska might have to overpay then. Another 5-6 win season will probably be the end of Rhule. He probably won’t get fired, but the writing will be on the wall.

If we were really going all in, chips in the middle of the table on the Samoan from wazzu, we would’ve gotten him to commit before he left on trips to Michigan and LSU. As it stands, I’m giving him a 2% chance to be N.

Key, 1-2 starting OL and a starting LB, plus a few more depth pieces and we are gucci. Hopefully we’ve just been keeping our powder dry with the current departures and prior portals misses and we are ready to drop some bags to fill the current needs.
