If we were really going all in, chips in the middle of the table on the Samoan from wazzu, we would’ve gotten him to commit before he left on trips to Michigan and LSU. As it stands, I’m giving him a 2% chance to be N.
I think these guys are at the top of their OL board at the moment but you are right if they really want to get dudes like these they can't afford to let them leave without a commitment. The coaches need to adjust this isn't like high school recruiting it more like speed dating.

The Nebraska football team will close up December with four transfer portal visitors making their way to campus before the dead period hits.

Kentucky wide receiver Dane Key and Sam Houston State defensive lineman Chris Murray arrived in Lincoln before the weekend and finish their visits on Saturday.

HuskerOnline has also confirmed that two more high-profile visitors will be in Lincoln and wrap up their visit weekend on Sunday.

Oklahoma linebacker Dasan McCullough and Georgia cornerback Justyn Rhett round out NU’s visit list over the weekend. The Huskers have hosted 22 confirmed transfer portal visitors since Dec. 11.

McCullough is the first confirmed LB target Nebraska has hosted

NU had multiple defensive linemen and EDGE players on campus over the last two weeks. McCullough is the first true linebacker target we’ve seen NU host.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound McCullough was a freshman All-American at Indiana in 2022 before transferring to OU in 2023. He played in 17 games over the last two seasons, making 12 starts at the cheetah and Will linebacker positions. He missed the first five games of 2024 with injury.

Oklahoma did not anticipate his entry into the portal. He logged 436 defensive snaps in 17 games at Oklahoma, with 47 tackles, six tackles for loss and three pass breakups.

While at Indiana, he saw action in 12 games, making four starts for the Hoosiers. He played 477 snaps at IU, with 49 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and three pass breakups as a true freshman.

McCullough began his high school football career at Blue Valley (Kan.) North in Kansas City in 2018-2020, before moving to Bloomington (Ind.) for his senior year.

He is the son of Notre Dame associate head coach and running backs coach Deland McCullough. McCullough worked with new Nebraska defensive line coach Terry Bradden with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2018-2020. He left KC for Indiana in 2021 and has been at Notre Dame since the 2022 season.

It’s also likely McCullough is connected with current NU staffer Jamar Mozee, a top Kansas City high school football coach at Lee’s Summitt (Mo.) North from 2015 to 2023.

Rhett round on the visit weekend for Nebraska

Meanwhile, Rhett will round out the visit weekend for the Huskers. He redshirted in 2023 at Georgia and saw action in four games over the last two seasons.

Rhett logged 37 defensive snaps in his four games of action in 2023 and 2024 for the Bulldogs.

The Las Vegas Bishop Gorman product initially committed to Notre Dame in high school but switched his pledge to Georgia after a trip to Athens. Oregon was another team that pushed to flip him in high school while committed to the Irish.

Rhett has three years to play three. Sunday is the last day transfer portal visitors can be on campus until Jan. 1.

I never like to defend Dean, but I don’t find that super unbelievable. I do think Nebraska has plenty of money, which is evidenced by (so far) keeping the majority of our young talent locked in and still hitting on some key targets. But, I think we are in recruiting battles with other teams with comparable money, or in some cases more. And then when you compare the states of those particular programs to ours, as well as stuff like location, then it isn’t that hard to see why they aren’t picking us.

Missouri for example doesn’t really have much more to offer in terms of location, but they have just as much money as we do (backed by the Walton’s or something like that). And then add on to that they have been winning much more than we have, it isn’t that hard to understand players picking them over us. Especially the guys with only 1 year left.

I also think a lot of teams are still trying to figure out the best way to allocate the money they do have. Do you spend a majority of your transfer money on 1 guy (like the tackle), or do you pass on a super high priced guy/need so you can better fill out more needs with potentially lesser talent?
I tend to agree. Dean is saying Nebraska offered the biggest bag to World, but instead of going to the highest bidder, he picked a team that is the No. 1 playoff seed instead of the team that is really excited and honored to be playing in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Not every recruiting loss is an indication of Nebraska being a poor.

Bingo. You never win them all, even when you put your best cards down.

It helps to have a very short memory in recruiting.

The top 3 for World suggested the exact opposite. Make dudes you want strong offers but you have to do so in the context of your entire roster. World would have been a great OT acquisition but can you bring him in making appreciably more than Jenkins? I don't know. Maybe you can but it's a dangerous game as we saw with Dowdell and EJ

I don’t think any of us have any idea exactly how much Nebraska has in NIL money compared to others, but we do have at least a couple of data points. For example, in 2023 the AD reported a total of $60m in contributions so we can’t exactly say that we don’t have people willing to cut checks. I think a lot of that was used to pay for the new facility upgrades to be clear. I made this point in another thread, but it’s questionable whether it was the right time to make a big investment in the facilities with the NIL rule changes.

But yeah, I’m guessing Oregon’s offer was “close enough” for World that the other upsides of Oregon won out. An extra $100-200k is not that much in the context of what getting to a second contract in the NFL would mean. That doesn’t seem that outlandish to me.

If we can land Key, I’d be pretty pleased with our portal haul thus far.

Would like to have an OL in the boat, but know we will still have decent options moving forward.
I'm less worried about the OL than I am the LBs. I feel like Raiola has actually done a decent job of developing guys in his room. Sure, we will need a couple of guys in the room to take a step forward...but I don't see reason to believe that won't happen.

And we have some good young guys in that LB room. But do we have anyone other than Shavers who has played meaningful snaps at LB?
