Moving Forward

For me moving forward means play all of the young guys or guys that want to compete. I'm tired of hearing from Isaac Gifford and some of the seniors that don't get it done. Play little Buford and a bunch of young guys and see how they respond.
As often as Gifford makes his rah rah speeches I wouldn’t have expected him to be this bad.

Our D didn't look good. But our offense screwed them over and over again. Just bad all around on Saturday.

Thats a good point but Indianus’s offense never really looked challenged either. Indianus’s defense was obviously unchallenged.

Just disappointing to see from the perceived strength of this team.

Malachi will have to be told what route to run every play…and every route in the tree depending on any audible. Too much work every play to get him in.

Everybody bitching about the offense. Where the hell was the defensive line? That was more concerning to me. Supposedly, 2-3 NFL bodies starting on that unit.
Don’t buy the hype of nfl bodies when they’ve been in college 4-6 years

Nah fam fuck that narrative
First drive of the game Indianus dicked them hard

Offense turned the ball over at the 12 yard line

Indianus dicked the defense again with a 6 play 88 yard drive

2/3 of their first possessions they had 171 yards on 19 plays.

Nebraskas defense got dicked hard and fast

Our D got embarrassed, no doubt. I thought it was interesting though that Cignetti pointed out points off turnovers and that he thought it was an exceptional game from that point.

Ty and Nash are good, and will likely at least be on an NFL roster in some fashion. But they are both interior DL guys. Ty on the outside is not maximizing him.

Williams and Lenhardt are two good, young DE pass rushers. 4 man front minimum is what we should be in.

As far as the LB's and DB's - they have shrunk in the bigger games against better competition too much. I think Gifford is a weak spot for us (even though I like him). I think we should play other players over our midget other safety.

But the defensive scheme and lack of adjustments has been exposed. The team on the whole still has a huge confidence issue, and when things are going not well (for several games in a row now), and scheme seems to be at least part of the issue, it makes not very confident players, fold.

It is all big picture - adjustments and improvements need to be made. On both sides of the ball. Over half way through the season, we mostly are what we are, but taking that mindset with a team reeling off a horrendous loss, means only more losses upcoming. Get better overall or get on moving on out of here. After OSU, I would start playing some youth where it makes sense on both sides of the ball.

Is this something you know from watching or those who watch practices? I know we hear the same stuff about Coleman constantly - that it is really an issue upstairs for him, and if so, hard to get a meh work-ethic player to get with the program and expect much out of him. He obviously has the physical size and talent, but if he isn't willing to put in the work, it means nothing.

Can we just do this with him every play?

Want to be clear, I'm a fan, he's a great kid, big heart, and wants to do well. Just has to align the extra energy it will take within himself, to get to where he should be.

Thanks for the info. And that info is better than I expected.

People just need to take a deep breath. Our upcoming schedule is

@ #2 Ohio State (wagon)
UCLAbia (2-4 with 1 Big Ten win)
@ USC (3-4 on a 3 game losing streak)
Wisconsin (5-2… kinda getting better?)
@ Cockeye (just lost to Michigan State… we always play them close)

Win one more to go bowling. Win 2-3 more to play in a “good” bowl game. Take the extra 15 practices the bowl prep gives you and start building momentum for 2025.
Remember last year when we were the “get right” game for like 3 teams in a row that were on 5 game losing streaks? USC definitely has that feel. 5-7, Cockeye sends us home on yet another walk off field goal.

I'm posting Bryan Wilson (ex Husker, Callahan era) because he's usually the anti-NU guy. He's usually the guy ripping the current staff.

When he's your voice of reason, you know you guys have gone off the deep end.

Yeah the problem with all of these are that other teams that have been poor for a long time continually get better and we just spin our wheels for 20 years.

Counterpoint to that though is that if you told NU fans on 12/1/22 that Year 2 of Rhule is going to be 7-5.....95% of Husker fans would have said "I'm fine with that."

I personally would wait to see what happens in these final 5 games. If the wheels truly do come off then you can grab your pitchforks.

I personally think it's gonna finish at 7-5 which is about where we had it progressing at the beginning.
