I'm dodging t-storms in Kearney and literal lee across the street from Casey's staying in the Days Inn Hotel. Got the required pics but will have to post later when I get some technical assistance. Feels good man gif.

Didn't think this was worthy of its own thread.

McCook "Crazy Days" this weekend, which is apparently a multi-day sale throughout town.

Wife made me go watch her buy shit we don't need BUT I did manage to get 2 things for myself.

I personally have always believed "Kill Lil Red, Herbie is my King" and this pic of the Big 8 mascots only confirms it.

Crazy Days as a young kid was the best.

Crazy Days as a young kid was the best.

the businesses are all dressed up as different 1980s movies

If I was single I would mention how many sloots were dressed up in 80s outfits but I’m a happily married and I did not notice the Milf with huge cans at the bank or the jail bait in short shorts at big red sports shoppe.

Back in Omaha after my road trip. Covered 900 miles since Tuesday AM within the state. I think I'm no longer homesick for country roads as I was only on I-80 for 100 miles, Kearney to Ogallala. Everything else was back roads which was the plan.

Stayed in a beautiful old (1928) remodeled hotel called the Arrow in Broken Bow last night. Highly recommended. Each room is a suite as it was a hotel and then apartments and now a hotel and they left all the rooms big with full stoves, refrigerators everything. It's on the National Historic Buildings list. $80 which was a steal. Classy restaurant with a respectable wine list and terrific service.

I went across the street to the Custer County Museum and Heritage Center where they have a very comprehensive archive of the county since the beginning. Three very nice older ladies sat down with me and for 2 hours we went over files and records from my family dating back to 1862. They had an entire folder just on my great-grandfather. I photocopied a bunch of stuff and filled in most of the gaps in my knowledge of that side of the family.

Hung out with the owner of the hotel and his nightly happy hour crew of locals on the patio on Main St. facing the town square and they wouldn't let me buy a round or pay for anything else as they welcomed a native son returning to his roots. Dammit, I love Nebraskans.

the group that owns Kinkaider brewing and the group that owns the Cobblestone in Broken Bow has like a 75% overlap

met a few of them at a conference for cobblestone owners and they were good dudes but shockingly did not have good taste in beer that wasn't their own (2 of them drank Heinken Light all night like psychopaths)

Over 188,000 OPPD customers are currently without power as a result of the hurricane force winds that ripped through the Omaha metro area tonight. Eppley Airfield officially reported wind gusts of 90 and 95 mph. The sound of chainsaws will fill the air tomorrow.

I know a lot of you guys like to bash Swimtown, but it got hammered. It’s a city full of trees on the rolling hills of the Missouri River, and those trees don’t like sustained wind speeds of 70-75 mph.

Bill Randy (KETV weather guy) has had his sleeves rolled up for hours, and he’s even somewhat forlorn about the effects of this windstorm. Normally, weather guys are kind of amped up about stuff like this. He’s used the word “brutal” about a dozen times in the last five minutes.

I’m currently without power in Kearney. We got blown as well, and not in a good way.

Hard winds and rain here in McCook

Didn’t have power in McCook from 1:55am to 5:25am. (Second time we have lost power due to storms this summer)
