MLPFC Shit Posting

I'm not trying to one up anybody in this discussion, but we're going to the black hills this summer.

signed , can't see the sun living in your guy's dick shade
When I was a kid we went that way almost every year because my Dad's brother lived in Wyoming. If you'd have asked a youthful me if I wanted to go to Paris, London, Rome or the Black Hills, it would have been the Black Hills every single time. I spent part of my honeymoon there as I asked my wife what one thing she really wanted to see in the USA that was a reasonable distance from Lincoln? Without missing a beat she said "the faces" i.e. Mt. Rushmore. Went to Aspen, CO for the rest of it where she got to see snow in August on Independence Pass. Still some of our best memories of all our travels.

On the subject of the Black Hills, I have a question. Have any of you been to Wounded Knee or traveled across the Rosebud or Pine Ridge Reservations? I'm not really that concerned about safety but would an outsider be welcome if you're just passing through. In Arizona, the Hopi and Navajo Reservations were swarming with tourists and it was no big deal. Just curious about the Sioux Reservations.

I’ve had friends ride up that way for Sturgis who have been blocked by Tribal Police right on the highway. “Turn around. The road is closed to you. For your safety.”

On a previous trip up that way, one of these guys did a shortcut across, also on his bike. Hot day, they spotted a convenience store so they stopped for a couple of drinks. While they were walking in, his wife astutely spotted the clerk on the phone, covering her mouth. She looked at my buddy and said, “We have to go. Now.”

They scooted back to the bike, mounted up and were barely rolling when a series of pickup trucks started to converge on them. My buddy flogged the bike and got the fuck outta there. Only one truck gave chase, and my buddy felt it wasn’t a real chase, but more to make a point: get out & stay out.

They lost the wars, right? Just asking …

In a few weeks we’re heading to Moab, Grand Canyon, Vegas for Cirque du Soleil, Yosemite and Sequoia. I’ve never been that direction. Can’t wait. Anybody have advice?
Keep your gas tank full and make sure your vehicle is road trip ready. There’s a lot of great wide open out that way without the services you’re used to seeing.

Beautiful set of destinations. You’re gonna love that trip.

We’re going with my folks and sisters family. We’ll have a blast. I’m actually driving my folks new Tahoe, so hopefully that’s not a problem. My brother in-law is driving his new Jeep. Hopefully that will be fun. My dad is driving his pickup. I was planning on getting a new vehicle before the trip, but that hasn’t happened. Between the trip and vehicle prices right now, it’s a big swing. I’ll wait until fall for a new vehicle. Looking at a Tahoe.

I’ve never been before. What’s there to do with the family?
Everything. Bear Country USA, Reptile Gardens, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Badlands, Rushmore Cave, Custer State Park has the Needles Highway & the Wildlife Loop, Lake Pactola, Spearfish Canyon, etc.

Your little man might be a bit young for most of that, but it’s truly a great place to visit with lots to see & do for the whole family.

This. We went with wife's two sisters families. Stayed in a VRBO that was on 5 acres so even when we were just back at the house the kids had a blast running around the property.

We did at least one hike a day that was easy enough for 5-10 year olds on their own and something new every day.

Thank you. I both understand and am saddenned at the same time. The Plains Indians' experience was quite a bit different than the tribes further south so it makes sense. Well, you just saved me a 100 mile detour so I've got that going for me.

I am a realtor at the Lake of the Ozarks so know the area well. Tons to do for kids or adults. Water parks, beaches, hikes in parks, bridal caves, fishing, Celebration Cruise Ship, bands, coving out, fishing, swimming, rent a boat, ........ hit me up with any questions. This one falls in my wheelhouse. I will say right now most of the rentals are booked up for the summer. We have become quite the popular place after we were too stupid to shut anything down for Covid. Record visitors last year, roughly 12 million where a normal year ahs about 5 million.
How early should we look to book something for next summer? I’ve been there once. But always looking for an easy vacation for the family.

My son just got back a couple of days ago from a camping and hiking trip to Sequoia with his fiance. The weather was cold and colder but it should be pretty nice when you go in a few weeks. They got a bit of a surprise on not one but two occasions when they found themselves within a 100 yards of a bear. Big brown bears which surprised them as black bears are much more common. They made noise and the bears ambled off but still. Grizzlies are not native to the area so I guess they were just brown bears.

It was beautiful up there but very dry as 80% of California is in a severe drought. Where I live in Orange County further south, we've only had 4 1/2" of rain since October 2020. Cell phone/GPS reception is sketchy in the woods at Sequoia but try to keep yourself updated on any fires. It could get very bad this summer.

One quick lesson learned concerning the Grand Canyon. If you're staying in Flagstaff, AZ on your trip to the South Rim, make sure you have a hotel reservation. They have thousands of rooms but frequently sell completely out. Not a lot of options if you can't get a room there.

Great itinerary. You should have a great time but stop to smell the flowers if you can as you're covering a lot of territory.

Add Storybook Island , Flintstone Bedrock City and the 1880 train.

Rosebud shouldn’t be an issue.

If going to the South Rim, be ready for the "touristy" side of the canyon. If you can go to the North Rim, it's incredible!! the drive in through the Kaibab is awesome scenery and the North Rim is very UNtoursity. the views are great BUT be warned there isn't the depth of the canyon view, nor is there a great view of the Colorado River (but it's pretty low this year.

Just my opinion though. Both sides are awesome but the wife and I always go North Rim...

Closer to Zion & Bryce NP’s as well. Stay in St. George, UT.

We got reservations for the whole trip in April. I believe we’re in Flagstaff one night. I’m looking forward to the hikes and outdoors. I’m not looking forward to Cirque du Soleil. That’s my sisters idea. I hope I’m surprised. Aren’t kodiak brown bears a grizzly with a different type of food source? I don’t know. @BushAK

I'd start booking early this winter at the latest. My friends who have VRBO's were starting to get booked up last fall for the 2021 Season. Earlier you book the better places you can get. Let me know if you need suggestions on what areas to look for a VRBO in

I've been a SD resident since OCT-2014. Until COVID, the reservations were normally fine for tourists in enclosed vehicles, but not the same for folks on their way to Sturgis, or motorcycles specifically.

I have to assume the COVID thing is over there since it is in the rest of the state, but I'd still say if you're in a car or SUV you'll be fine, but not as much on a hog.

I know this is contradicting other people's mainly 2nd hand experience, but if you want to see it, go.
