MLPFC Shit Posting

Welp, I'm feeling poor tonight as I spent a "boatload" of dough on Mrs. LHR today; we booked passage on an Alaskan cruise for our upcoming 30th anniversary next month. In a fit of fiscal stupidity at the travel agent's office this afternoon, I upgraded us all the way to the Baja Stateroom Suite, but the radiant smile from my lovely bride at my gesture was worth it. I figure we're probably only going to do this once, so 1st class it is.

It's really not the trip I wanted (thanks, Canada for ensuring us filthy Americans cannot grace your country with our presence), but at least we're checking this one off of the bucket list while we're still young enough to enjoy it. We're traveling with good friends of ours who are also celebrating their 30th anniversary this year (Tim and I were "Best Man" for each other at our respective weddings), so I know we'll have plenty of laughs to go with the scenery and the journey. Departs from Seattle with stops in Juneau, Skagway, cruising through Glacier Bay, then Ketchikan and back to Seattle. I should weigh roughly 350 lbs. by the time we debark based on the quantity and quality of the food that's apparently going to be available to me. C'est la vie.

In the future. It is my goal whenever my kids get out of the house to take a month long tour/cruise with tits to Hawaii and French Polynesia. Or maybe we’ll splurge when the kids are older and just take a vacation to Hawaii. We went to Kauai for our honeymoon and loved it. Low key island with lots of outdoors shit to do. Kayaked, hiked, snuba, mountain tubing, did all sorts of shit. If I ever hit big money. I would live there. Either way. At some point in the future. We’ll go back to that place somehow. Was an incredible experience. And if anyone hasn’t been there. It’s worth dropping some coin to visit.

The only reason is if you want to live in an older neighborhood, e.g. fairacres, happy hollow, etc.
Yea I get that. My buddies brother who is married to Mrs. B’s granddaughter bought a house in one of those Omaha neighborhoods 5-10 years ago just to knock it over so they could build a new one. Now talk about fuck you money.

We're going to try to do Hawaii with the kids before my oldest is out of the house. Just looking at the plane tickets for 5 is sobering.

Been there many times. My parents bought a time share between Lihue and Nawiliwili Harbor (and actually got OUT of it when they converted their complex to condos many moons later), so having a place to stay for "free" was great. I loved every trip we took there, both as a family and later on as adults. Our last trip there was ten years ago as a slightly belated trip for our 20th Anniversary (same two couples), and the complex converted to condos the next year. Timed that one right!

We actually discussed French Polynesia as a destination for this milestone anniversary trip, but will all the bullbutter still going on with the global pandemic & politics, decided we'd move the Alaskan cruise up on the pecking order based on desirability and perceived safety.

A couple of thoughts on Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora etc. for you and @slattimer. Moorea is beautiful and small so very easy to navigate. I'd leave out the main island of Tahiti unless you have lots of time as it's not nearly as charming and it's a big island. When I say Moorea is beautiful it's a completely inadequate adjective. Imagine they took Kauai and shrunk it down to an island you can drive around in less than an hour, that's Moorea. Everything is just right in your face. I've been twice as luckily my wife has a cousin who lives on Moorea. He's been there forever and knew what we should see. We're planning to go back again in November.

A few things you need to know. It's expensive, like triple what Hawaii is if you do it right.

It's French so it's not nearly as manicured as Hawaii, an example being the water is loaded with coral to the point we had to wear rubber soled slippers when we went into the water. You rarely see that in Hawaii. Do not cheap out on your hotel or resort. Some of the lesser properties are not air conditioned and it is hot all the time. 90 degrees is pretty normal and it really doesn't cool off that much at night. It's almost on the equator after all.

Moorea is my favorite and some of the restaurants are world class French, like you're in Paris type quality. Bora Bora we nicknamed Boring Boring because it is heavily skewed to newlyweds. It's tiny and way too expensive for what you get in my opinion. Stay on Moorea for a week.

You must go to the Tahitian or Polynesian Cultural Center, preferably in the evening for the amazing buffet and show. It blows away the Hawaii version. We were there for about 6 hours and every minute was mesmerizing and I'm pretty jaded about that kind of stuff having lived in Honolulu for 2 years. It's like you're really in a Tahitian village not an amusement park.

Rent a car for a couple of days so you can explore the island. You don't need one for a week unless you want the convenience for getting into town as taxis are everywhere and many resorts have shuttles.

It's a 7 1/2 hour flight from LAX to Papeete. From there you either take a puddle jumper flight to Moorea or the ferry. We've done both and both are fine.

Save some money for black pearls. It's the only place in the world that has them and they are gorgeous and unique but not cheap.. Your spouses probably already know all about them, ha ha.

I only use travel agents for two things, cruises and Tahiti. I highly recommend using one as it also gives you some recourse if there are any problems. You're spending a lot of money and you want to get it right.

Work is taking me to Oahu in August for a week and Mrs Boondock will be coming along. We'll do the touristy shit on the island to get it out of the way. Next trip will be to one of the other islands not named Hawaii. Kauai sounds awesome!!

Don’t knock the Big Island. Plenty of cool stuff to do & see there as well. We rented a Harley for a day & saw quite a bit of the island that way. Seeing an active volcano in person is beyond description.

I’d like to visit the big island. If you go to Kauai. Get a jeep. It saved our ass when we went to the west side of island and all of the sudden the road ended and we plopped out on a beach. There’s just so much shit you can do and you can get around the whole island in under an hour.

I'm not trying to one up anybody in this discussion, but we're going to the black hills this summer.

signed , can't see the sun living in your guy's dick shade

Have you been to the Ozarks? I’ve heard that’s another good place to go for kids?
Buddy has a place down there so we go about 3 out of 4 years. Generally don't do a lot other than lake activities. About the only other thing we do is take the boat to a restaurant/bar on the lake. If you don't have a boat that can handle that lake it would pretty much suck.

I am a realtor at the Lake of the Ozarks so know the area well. Tons to do for kids or adults. Water parks, beaches, hikes in parks, bridal caves, fishing, Celebration Cruise Ship, bands, coving out, fishing, swimming, rent a boat, ........ hit me up with any questions. This one falls in my wheelhouse. I will say right now most of the rentals are booked up for the summer. We have become quite the popular place after we were too stupid to shut anything down for Covid. Record visitors last year, roughly 12 million where a normal year ahs about 5 million.

Thanks. I plan on going in the next couple years when my three kids get a little older.
