Both sides of my family are pretty religious. I have several pastors on both sides of my family and my sister is a pastors wife. I’m actually very grateful for my upbringing and have made some changes. My Swedish Farmer Grandparents from Gothenburg = No Cards or dice in the house. (cuz Romans cast lots for Jesus clothes) No drinking, ever. No smoking, ever. No dancing. No swearing, unless working cows. @Woodrow F Call @scotchfrost9697
My German Cowboy Grandparents from Valentine = Have a pack of cards and a pack of smokes on you 24/7 to be polite. No beers in Church until after the sermon. Never trust a man without a vice or one that doesn't swear.
We played Rookon my Dad’s side of the family we have 2 or 3 tables of pitch games going at every family get together
the tension is so high at winners table most don’t even drink during that game
PS: my wife is the worst Pitch partner ever, hooray for me
I'm here, just sparingly. Had a big deadline last Friday and getting started back up with research has been eating into my shitposting bandwidth too much lately. It's nice to have the feeling like the good ol' days with double-digit MLPFC poasts to catch up on though.@Blackshirts_Win_'ships has been absent way too long.
Even though I disagree with him politically 90% of the time, I miss his takes/opinion on everything else.
I'm glad this is in the shit posting thread, because otherwise we'd be derailing a thread about a specific topic.
4, 10, or 11 point?
About sober card playing: Dad took me with all of his buddies to a grouse hunting trip around Thedford/Halsey when I was a freshman in high school. I'd never played poker previously, but after they'd all played poker and drank for hours, my dad loaned me a dollar in nickels to join. 25 cent anty per hand, 25 cent max raise.
This sober 15 year old came home with almost $100! And also, a lot of hate from all of my dad's drunken buddies.
Edit: If your wife is that bad, at least you don't have to play at the sober table. So, while not a win-win, at least it's not a lose-lose.
Sounds expensive AF.married 4 times
poor guy

I grew up playing 5 point pitch. Started around age 8 and got to play at the adults table by age 10. I am such an azzhole snob when it comes to 5 point.on my Dad’s side of the family we have 2 or 3 tables of pitch games going at every family get together

All other types of pitch games are not my cup of tea. (Exception is 4 pt which is the exact same as 5 pt. but w/o the joker)
We’ve been in Austin since last Wednesday and have played every night with my daughter/SIL. Good times and very competitive.
Unlike yore bride, Mrs. Bomber has upped her game over the years and can hold her own with any of the other couples we play with. And 4 of our 5 kids have played for years too.
.
Respectfully, I hate 10 pt. No real “strategy” involved, imo, as the only cards that matter are whatever suit trump is. Just not our game.10 point, usually teams of 3
My cousin set the precedent many years ago that he refused to be on the same team as his wife... wish I would have done that too but now it’s too late. 🙁
any luck getting the house sold?High, Low, Jack, Game.
Sale Pending, close on or before June 18th. Ready to GTFO of town. Taking a little easy vacation to Gulf Shores Friday for a week. Then we'll move.any luck getting the house sold?
Willie Nelson said his two favorite singers were Frank Sinatra (didn't see that one coming) and George Jones. I have no dog in this hunt as I'm not a big country music guy but I wasn't blown away by George Jones compared to say Marty Robbins, Waylon Jennings, or Ray Price. So I'll agree with you although I've found they all improve after a few beers.hot take:
George Jones
