Struggling today after trying to drink every beer at the local Legion last night. You know you're in good company when it's an argument on who gets to buy the next round.

On a serious note, I know we have a few SoCal guys in the group. Has anyone had to evacuate or been impacted by the wildfires?

@SoCal_Corn and the world's greatest dog Norton wisely relocated to AZ a few years ago. Bronie Emeritus @bbenson67 is still out there, but IIRC he's in Orange County and hopefully marked safe from this latest shitstorm.

I escaped the stupidity of SoCal and its government, local state and national.

So far one co-worker is probably w/o his home in Pac Palisades, but his family all safe.
We've closed the office and canceled some stuff.

A couple of other friends who I've not seen forever have also lost Palisades homes.

My fave Malibu restaurant The Reel Inn is gone.

It's really bad.

All good and thanks for asking. No smoke, fire or wind since the beginning of the fires. Orange County has pretty much escaped all of this.

I've lived here since 1978 and this is worse than the Sylmar and Whittier Narrows earthquakes in terms of damage and cost. A lot of stuff coming out about the mismanagement and priorities which led to this but bad things were inevitable with 100 mph winds.

Suffice to say that it didn't have to be this bad. $17 million was taken from the fire department budget and given to the homeless program which already had a budget of $24 billion and much of the homeless money can't be accounted for. That's just the tip of the iceberg. People are justifiably angry and hopefully it will lead to some changes, but it's too late for this go around.

It appears that the homeless program is a big Ponzi scheme anyway. There’s a guy on IG who’s been researching into it and some of the companies who’ve been hired are based in the Cayman Islands and stuff. Plus it seems they are paying more on payroll than actual housing.

An update on the fires in Socal. I wish I had some better news but the situation while showing small signs of improvement is still dire.

More strong Santa Ana winds are forecast starting Monday through at least Tuesday night. They are not expected to be as strong as the previous week but will still pose a significant threat. Humidity is in the teens in some areas and only expected to rise to 30% at best through the rest of next week. No precipitation for at least the next 10 days. The last measurable rain was at the beginning of October.

A couple of stories related to the handling of the fire were reported today and it's pretty bad. According to a Fire Department whistleblower, just 2 days before the fire, Mayor Bass sent a recommendation to the city council to cut an additional $47 million from the fire department and to close 16 fire stations. The money was needed for the homeless program she said. Recent studies have shown that we actually need 62 new fire stations as the population has doubled in Los Angeles County over the years since the current number of fire stations came into existence.

There is a reservoir with 113 million gallons of water in Pacific Palisades that was taken off line for routine maintenance just days before the fires. It's still not back on line. The head of the DWP is the highest paid county employee with a salary of $750,000 per year plus bonuses.

Orange County is doing well and it doesn't appear the next wind event will have much impact here.
