Can't disagree. Satt is not getting the job done, and has never proven/shown he can or will.

Head scratching assistant hires, with ALL the money we had to throw at assistant hires at Rhule's disposal (and we didn't even use it all!), and we get Satt, McGoober, Foldey.... not only did Rhule not use the $ at his disposal to hire a kick ass staff, but he went with guys unproven or even proven to not be very good, and it is now kicking his ass in results.

The results ultimately are what matter.

What is crazy, and who knows if this is right given the source, but I think Sipp said that IU's coaching staff is like an average age of 34 and is one of the youngest in the country.

Pretty scathing take here

He's 1000% right. I've been probably the most willing to give Satterfield a chance, but I'm now completely out on him. It's been plain obvious that the entire offense is a shit show from 2nd half CU on. It's gotten worse not better.

HOT TAKE: I actually think Rhule recognizes this and Satt might be in trouble. When Rhule made that post-game comment "nothing comes easy for us on offense" and said the exact same play goes for 20 yds for our opponents, but when we run it it is 0 yds. That was a shot at Satterfield. People thought that was a shot at our WRs having no speed or talent. But that was a shot at the OC.

I'm hoping Rhule will make a change at get Satterfield out of here.

Not necessarily saying we can’t upgrade from Sat, but he’s clearly not the most blameworthy coordinator from yesterday.
I used to think this. But Satterfield has been bad this season.

His job is to create opportunities in the run game, short pass game, long pass game, screen game, reverse game etc......his offense creates ZERO opportunities other than Dylan making a Mahomes/Brady throw. That's not an offense.

There is nothing our offense does well. That's on the OC.

Bolded stood out to me as well. People are scarred from Frost, Riley, etc but Rhule is smart. The guy clearly knows what needs to happen. But there is no sense in canning the guy now, that especially isn’t how Rhule operates. He will put out feelers and whatnot in the background, identify the likely/preferred replacement, and make the moves within a few days of one another once the season ends in time for the portal season. And I’d be willing to bet if he does bring in someone new, that person will also have a few players they bring with them as well.

Yeah I listened to Rhule's presser live and I was like "oh, we're taking shots at Satt now, I see"...

And then of course I turn on our message boards and our moron fans are like "Rhule just attacked our WRs ZOMG!!"....Rhule never attacks his players.

That was not an attack on our players. That was Rhule going "we can't draw up an offensive scheme for shit"...and that's on Satt. No matter what Rhule says publicly I will believe that he is replacing Satt. I believe Dom is probably in his ear about that as well. The offensive scheme is not good enough. Time for a change.

I don’t know what the special mix is. We have tried about every type of coach since Osborne and those experiments have failed in the end. I still think a coach can have a solid program at Nebraska. We might be better off putting pictures on a dart board and picking a coach that way.

Barring a big turn around on offense, Satt is probably gone.

So is Glenn Thomas the shoe-in to become OC? And is that a good thing?

In Rhule’s own strategic mission (NU as an NFL style program, right or wrong), what does the HC and GM do when they have the #1 draft pick, elite QB to build around…they provide that guy the best OC available to match his game & style.

Satt isn’t that guy. Not for DR, not for anyone at this level of the game (based on the bulk of his past production level). Therefore, we will see if Rhule learns the lessons of NU’s past and he is able to ‘process’ a friend and longtime associate after year-2.

Rhule has his #1, program changer in DR. If he chooses his connections to Satt over DR’s needs, then Rhule (like others before him) will deserve to fail.

I will be interested to see if Raiola’s family puts pressure on Rhule to do the same.

No idea. I don't know what Thomas's aspirations are.

He can't be worse than Satterfield though. Satterfield runs an offense that literally does nothing well. As Rhule said, nothing comes easy for us. That is code for: our offense sucks.

Any new hire would be better. The only thing our offense can say it does well are the end around/sweeps to Barney and then "hope Dylan makes an incredible NFL throw " plays.

Beyond that everything else we do is poor.

343 yards and 9+ YPP. Whatever failings the offense had yesterday, especially given the experience level on defense, the performance was beyond terrible.

we can talk all day about schemes and play-calling. there's no shortage of OCs at other schools doing more innovative things or seeming like they have a better feel for calling plays.

the thing that is inarguable is that the execution of most of what we try to do is terrible. The perimeter blocking is the most glaring example, but the execution is terrible across the board, and that is absolutely Satterfield's fault. He and the other offensive coaches either can't teach it, or aren't willing to make sure it's done right. every time I watch this offense against a team with a pulse, it looks like they are running a play for the 3rd time ever and the defense just watched the first 2

but don't get me wrong, the scheme is garbage, too. He does a terrible job of forcing the defense to defend the entire field (which is made worse by the fact that no one in the program seems to care about perimeter blocking.) we spend so much time in tight formations that only seem to bring more defenders into a small area, then when one player fails to execute the whole thing gets blown up. we don't take many deep shots and the plays either aren't designed for it or we can't execute well enough to get any yards after the catch on the short/intermediate passes

Satt's offense is a shitshow. Opposing DC's have to be laughing at how easy it is to read our telegraphed play calls. Satt has no idea how to use the whole field, use counter plays (running or passing), tries to run the same 3 or 4 plays that have worked fairly well over the season into the ground (again, telegraphing the calls), and then the execution on the plays we run is usually piss-poor. Run game is the most basic, hand off up the gut stuff, imaginable. The passing game has no variation, routes are not crisp often, and counter pass plays rarely happen. DR can go through progressions and read the field, but at this point with our opposition having almost everything sniffed out, there is usually nothing there and now DR's confidence is shook (he is a true frosh). Satt's offense is holding DR back a ton.

Satt needs to go, I've been down on him since last year. He is playing tic tac toe when other teams are playing chess.

I just think all that comes back to the OC though. The buck stops with him.

I mean, I guess you could keep Satterfield but then fire Barthel & McGuire...but I just don't think that changes much. I'm not a believer that changing out a WR or RB coach really revolutionizes your team. I think those guys are 1- recruiters and 2- technique coaches. In that order.

I think people generally way overestimate what changing out a, say, DB coach does for a program. It doesn't do that much. It usually comes down to the Jimmy's and Joe's....there's not some magic elixir a new DB coach is gonna have.

That's kind of how I feel about McGuire. My biggest issue is I'm guessing we had no evidence of Banks or Neyor run blocking on tape. We shouldn't be bringing in portal WRs that can't or won't run block. Again McGuire doesn't have a magic elixir to make them do it. You have to solve this by recruiting people that already buy in. My guess is that Banks and Neyor didn't block on tape and we overlooked it bc we were desperate.
