Kaelin Watch

if we have a chance to flip him it won't be now. It will be October or so, and it will require that we get off to a good start and Mizzou looks to be headed to another 5 or 6 win season

How wild would it be to land a QB and 2 WRs from the same high school. Has that ever happened before? Let alone a local school...
nice recruiting selling point

Is he legit? I don't follow recruiting or high school football very much

Let’s take both
This is the right idea. I would love the opportunity to get Flores back. But I also don't think we should let Kaelin out from underneath us either.

I understand slow aying him when we had a legit shot at Raiola, but I'd make a pretty aggressive push now if I was this staff. Bell West is pumping up legit prospects every year, with more on the horizon. Not only would we be securing a solid QB prospect, but it would go a long ways towards both Hall and McMorris for 2024 and it would help establish a Bell West pipeline that should have happened years ago.

Would he even listen. Didn’t Nebraska pretty much stop recruiting him during the height of the Raiola nonsense

from a Mitch Sherman interview of BW Coach Huffman a few days ago

As for Kaelin, the 6-3, 200-pound Mizzou-committed QB, nothing has changed. Nebraska offered early. The new coaches in Lincoln thought highly of him, but they did not want to take a commitment while targeting Raiola.

If Raiola accepts the Georgia offer, might Kaelin reconsider and look at the Huskers?

“That’s completely a hypothetical, so it’s tough for me to cross that bridge,” Huffman said. “But I will tell you that Nebraska has always been a favorite for Daniel, and he was really bummed that it wasn’t going to work out.

“I can’t say yes, I can’t say no. There are some family ties to Missouri, because his dad lives down there. But at the same time, (Missouri) has got to keep winning. They’ve got to keep recruiting well.”

I don’t want to say this whole recruitment is a failure for Rhule but definitely some egg in his face. It’s been such a massive focal point of Nebraskas recruiting and social media interactions. And nothing. And on top of that you lost a halfway decent qb would probably would have committed because of chasing a pipe dream.

Definitely should have been working on parallel tracks

I don't look at it that way. I really think that politically Rhule didn't have a choice other than to try for Raiola. What if he hadn't? Virtually no one would have thought that was okay.

I am not even sure Raiola is a great fit for us right now.

I posted some of Charles Powers' comments earlier. Powers said he has a great, strong, arm, but says last year he became an "in-structure" player, a pocket passer, a distributor rather than a playmaker, who will need Georgia's OL talent and WR talent.

The fail though was not going hard enough at the inevitable backup plan.

We'll find out what they did behind the scenes, if anything. Nebraska wouldn't have wanted that to get out because of Raiola, and a couple of the guys we're talking about are committed, so they wouldn't want it out until there actually was a spot (if they were interested). If they were working a Reno or a Kaelin behind the scenes because there is a chance at a flip, we'll find out in the next 2-3 weeks.
