Nebraska goes into Texas to add a running back commit for the class of 2024. After visiting Lincoln this weekend, Lancaster (Texas) running back
Kewan Lacy has officially committed to the Huskers.
Here are some quick takes on the commitment of Lacy and what it means for Nebraska.
With Lacy’s commitment, NU is now up to 18 commitments and six from the state of Texas.
1. Nebraska’s running back board remained somewhat of an unknown until this weekend. The Huskers locked up a commitment from Lacy, giving them a top-level back in the class as we head into the dead period.
2. Lacy also took official visits to Baylor (June 9) and Arizona State (Apr. 29). He was in Lincoln this past weekend for his third official visit. He held Power Five offers from NU, Baylor, ASU, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Miami, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, Tennessee, Florida State, Texas A&M, TCU, Georgia Tech, Purdoodoo, Cincinnati, Michigan State, California, Boston College, Utah, Houston and Indianus.
3. As a junior, Lacy was limited by different injuries. That affected his recruiting process and some of the bigger offers he picked up early on. As a sophomore at Nolan Catholic in Fort Worth, he ran for around 1,400 yards before transferring to Lancaster as a junior.
4. If people haven’t heard much about Lancaster High School, which is south of Dallas, they should get familiar. Wide receiver
Omar Manning committed to Nebraska from Tyler Junior College but graduated high school at Lancaster. Lacy and four-star cornerback
Corian Gipson hold offers for Nebraska for the 2024 class. Nebraska has also offered wide receiver
Emmanuel Choice in the 2025 class. Choice was supposed to visit Lincoln this weekend with Lacy.
5. Lacy missed a few games as a junior and had to play several more games dinged up. Still, Lacy played a critical role in helping Lancaster to a 9-3 overall record and the second round of the 5A D1 UIL State Playoffs (the state’s second-largest classification).
6. NU’s push in the state of Texas continues under Rhule. The Huskers signed six high school recruits and brought in one transfer in the class of 2023. With the addition of Lacy, the Big Red already has six players committed from Texas in the class of 2024.
7. Lacy, like many recruits under Rhule, also has verified track speed. He ran
10.79 seconds in the 100-meter dash as a junior.
