Rhule is nothing if not a salesman. In (very short) hindsight, it seems like a bit of a tell that they leaked Butler almost simultaneously with Snow and Bradden. Normally, you would think you’d want to make the DC hire the story. Rhule found himself much better optics.

It's funny how everyone is like how can you be annoyed or under whelmed by this. It's because we consistently make the wrong hires in key places and we've done it for the better part of 2 decades for fuck sake.

It seems We're the only Blue blood that can't go out and hire proven anything. Fuck I think we're the only Blue blood program to ever be down this long as a program.
Where does the Holgorsen hire fit into this narrative?

Wouldn’t it make more sense that he wanted to announce all the hires at the same time since we have defensive transfers visiting 12 hours from now?

For those saying DBs took a step back, In 2023 Nebraska allowed 2,527 passing yards, 210 ypg
in 2024 with Butler Nebraska allowed 2,516 passing yards, 209 ypg
Thanks for bringing this to the discourse. This is interesting to see!

Maybe but I don’t think you have to announce them for guys who are on campus. The leaking to Thamel is for fans and the rest of the press. Presumably (hopefully) they are communicating directly with guys who are here in 12 hours.

I think one major thing that gets lost regarding Butler's performance this year, outside of an injury to one of his starting CB's is that White's calls dictated the coverage we played. White loved to play soft zone, which is going to really allow the stats to pile up. I can't tell you how many times I yelled from my seats in Memorial or at the TV about that.

What do you mean? He should have been given the OC position last off season and we didn't. Nebraska fucked that up. Typical. Like I said Nebraska likes to talk like we're a Blue blood with lots of money but our hires continued to be G5 hires until Holgs took over with 3 games left.

Also comparing a dude with massive amounts of college experience from HC at multiple places, an OC a 3 different places, a really good play caller, great position coach by all accounts. Coached under the crazy mind of Mike Leach.

There's nothing to compare here.

I was pointing out that the Holgorsen hire refuted your line that “it seems we’re the only Blue blood that can’t go out and hire proven anything”. A lot of hyperbole in this thread.

FYI—Holgs was offered last offseason and turned it down.

Maybe so. But just imagine if we acted like that before there was 3 games left in the season. there was a lot more evidence Holgs was gonna work out compared to Butler.

There is also a whole lot of people doing the Mike Riley-esque coping mechanism going on in this thread.

Drove me insane watching every scrub qb convert five 3rd and 6s a game

But we never gave up a bomb 😎

Let’s just give it a shot guys, not like we can be much worse than we’ve been the last decade. I think Butler will do a good job.

If we’re not Top 20 total defense next season I’ll post my wife’s nudes.
I would like to request a photo beforehand before I take the bait. Slightly clothed would be suffice.

Not missing, but have one coach on there that needs to be a scratch.
