January Recruiting Thread

Someone on Rivals posted word out of Maryland is Dylan Christley is out of eligibility (he was visiting MD Tuesday).

I can't confirm
Wait, what?
Guys can play nine seasons now but somehow this guy uses up his eleginility before leaving JUCO?

Have no idea what this account is, but they claim to rep him and say he has multiple years of elgibility left.

I said I couldn't confirm.

The guy has a murky past. He gives a HS he attended, but you can find nothing online about him playing there it or when he graduated. He has been rostered at several Juco's in the last 2-3 years.

If he actually is out of eligibility, it might be because he is a little older and started his clock running and then was not playing a couple of years.

Okay, he has been rostered at four Jucos at least between 2021-23 and it appears he played for at least 3. He was listed as a sophomore all four times.

He played for two different Jucos in the 2023 season.

He probably is effed.

I can't believe a 276-pound guy who claims to run a 4.48 40 is making dubious claims about his career.

I just did some random digging as I was slightly bored, and there seems to be some red flags. From the article you had posted on Saturday (https://247sports.com/college/maryl...he-idea-of-grinding-in-the-big-ten-225190181/), they state he is a Tennessee native.

"Nebraska, Illinois, Arizona State, Colorado State and others are also pursuing Christley, a Tennessee native. Who's most interested?"

When you just search his name (was looking for a recruiting profile), he shows up at multiple different JUCOs.

This site shows this Dylan Christley as a Sophomore from Greenfield, TN on the roster for the Gavilan Rams - a community college in CA. Based on the game logs shown from that page, this would have been from the 2022-2023 year. However, he isn't listed on their roster for the 22-23 season (https://www.gavilanrams.com/sports/fball/2022-23/roster), but their site says he played in 1 game with no stats.

An almost identical person is listed for De Anza - a community college in CA. Dylan Christley from Greenfield, TN, and again listed as a Sophomore. Based on the schedule with his player profile, this would have been for the 2023-2024 year. But again, he isn't listed on their roster for that year (as he would've been at Maricopa), but their site again says he played in 1 game with no stats.

This site shows a "DJ Christley" as a Sophomore from Greenfield, TN on the roster for Cabot College - a community college in CA. This was for the 21-22 year, and they do show stats for "DJ" and "DJ" is listed on their roster (https://athletics.chabotcollege.edu/sports/fball/2021-22/roster).

Now, this last year he was at Maricopa - a JUCO in Arizona. The semi-weird part with that is that Maricopa doesn't even have a website for their football. We obviously know he went there based on the highlights from HUDL and such, but there is no roster or anything like that to look at. The reason they seemingly do not have a website or anything is because Arizona cut all JUCO football back in 2018. However, lawsuits were filed and it was later brought back (https://cronkitenews.azpbs.org/2022/10/05/arizona-juco-football-long-fight-continues-mcccd-hjcac/), but it was as a new conference that wasn't part of the NJCAA. The new conference is the Hohokam Junior College Athletic Conference and each team has their own section (http://www.hjcac.com/mustangs.html). The roster for Maricopa hasn't been updated since the 20-21 football season. I also can't find any games stats or even box scores from the games this past year.

All I could find was a tweet with their records, and there were others with highlights and stuff as well, but no website or anything with official stats.

Hudl does have some information, but there really aren't any stats:

If he was in fact "DJ Christley" at Cabot College and a SO in 21-22, then that would mean he would be 5-6 years removed from high school? Not sure how his playing clock works with JUCOs, etc., but most JUCOs also didn't play football in 2020-2021. There just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information on this kid and his recruiting is supposedly blowing up.

His twitter also only goes back to November 15 of last year.

He lists his offers as Arkansas Pine Bluff, Wyoming, Colorado State, New Mexico State, Texas State, UNLV, and Nebraska, with Maryland interest, and supposedly received a phone call from Georgia.

*EDIT - this took me a while to do and I see you have already basically found everything I added above, but yeah, something seems off here.

It would absolutely not shock me if he ended up being some 37 year old former semipro player who wanted another crack at the big time.
