Is 8-4 success? What about 7-5?

Just go back to the preseason predictions thread and laugh at how much the goalposts have moved between then and now

The answer is simple. Year Three!
I said 9-3 and that was assuming pedo state was a top 10 team. This season has been a failure. Only question left - has it been a mild failure or a massive failure

Hoiberg improved from 7-25 and last in the conference in year one to 10-22 and second to last in the conference in year 3. He didn’t finish over .500 until year 5, when we made the tourney.

He was given time to turn it around succeeded (it appears) despite so many fans calling for his firing.
Rhule will also get plenty of time. He will get atleast two more years.

I’m going to be in NYC while the the pinstripe bowl is happening.
Is it bad I was quietly rooting for a Penn state win and an Cockeye win next so I can see them play in NYC?

I’d predicted a 9-3 regular season coming in, so 8-4 will be short of my expectations, 7-5 will piss me off.

Truth be told, we could see really any outcome against Cockeye and the bowl game. Could finish 9-4, likely finish is 7-5 and I can’t talk myself into that as progress.

There are absolutely things I saw this year that looked like progress. Better offense overall. Better special teams by a lot. Defense was actually better than I thought it would be without Nash and Robinson.

Dylan’s injury changes how I’ll look at the last four games for sure, but I can’t paint any picture that excuses the team not showing up against Minnesota.

Can we pause and consider the fact that the line between okay and failure is one game apparently?

If Raiola doesn’t get hurt and we beat USC, but then get butt fucked by Penn State and lose at home to Cockeye, is that really so much better than losing Raiola mid game at USC and losing that game, with everything else playing out the same?
I don’t think the USC game was a guarenteed win if Dylan doesn’t get hurt given how we let teams stick around.

Before the season started I said anything less than 8-4 is a failure. I'm sticking with that. However, even if we beat Cockeye and get to 8-4. The Minnesota game will be on my mind. That is an absolute black eye on the season.

In hindsight we weren’t going to beat Michigan or PSU. Both have better rosters and we didnt match well at all. Our run defense is our weakness and their run offense their strength. If we play either of them 10 times they win the majority.

We should have beat USC and you have to consider at least one letdown per season, which was Minnesota.

We should never lose to Cockeye.

So that’s a 9-3 season. If we beat Minny and USC we are 10-2 and probably in the playoffs.

So I think 9 wins is a successful season. We get there if Dylan doesn’t get hurt. Now we have to beat Cockeye and win our bowl game to get there.

I get a letdown game, but to get raped by a shitty Minnesota team is inexcusable. We didn’t even show a pulse that night.
