How old were you when you first hit $100k or over in yearly salary/earnings?

Similar to you, I spent 15 years touring in a band and didn't really focus on my career until that was over. I'm also 14 years older than my wife, so she was in school for a portion of that. We were poor. Now she makes well over 100k and I just hit the 100k mark in 2021 when I was 41. I'm also lucky enough that I've spent my life doing exactly the things I want to do, so money has never really been the goal for me. I absolutely love what I do.

What bands were you in? We played a few metal festivals in Europe so we may have run in some of the same circles.
Shit, sorry @2010sarenevercoming , meant to reply to @Cookiemonster .

I think you've got my post mixed up with @Cookiemonster - I was in a couple garage bands, but what was going to be our big breakthrough gig at the Ranch Bowl got cancelled because Ratt booked a reunion tour, so my life as a rock star was derailed.

I bounced around a ton of different jobs for a while, now I'm entrenched in a mid-level corporate job, moderately underpaid, but been around here long enough to have a lot of flexibility & autonomy.

The majority of responses ITT will be from high earners or those with careers who clearly aren't in it for the money. I've seen this thread once a year on tMB for years.

It's a trade off. Most who are highly compensated aren't passionate about their career and vice versa. I chose money, but the definition of rich depends on perspective.

Edit: And to Or
Started earning real money 4-5 years ago. Golf course designer/builder. Lucky not to have to make that trade off.

No shit? Any courses we’d recognize?
Currently designing a course in Aiken, SC called Old Barnwell. Should be wrapped up this summer. Designed and built a 6-hole reversible course in Wilson, AR for a client who wanted his own personal course. Consult at a couple places out east. Trying to sort out how I can help Oakland Golf Club in Oakland, NE. Just starting to get more design/consulting work the past few years which is a lot of fun.

First job was Dismal River Red interning for Tom Doak. Raked, shoveled, and rode around on a sand pro for 3 months.

Worked on a bunch of cool stuff with him as a lead associate/shaper. Medinah, Bel-Air, Memorial Park in Houston, Dornick Hills, The Loop at Forest Dunes, St. Patrick’s Links in Ireland, The National in Australia. Heading to help on his new course at Pinehurst for a few days next week before driving back down to Aiken.

Worked for a Gil Hanse during the pandemic on Oakland Hills South course and Denver CC.

If win the lottery, I'm calling you. Will need a personal course.

Damn I was 28, thought I did well. But I guess this is the platinum board so everyone else made $100k straight out of college whilst running their 4.3 forties.
Tits and I have eclipsed that mark jointly.

Sadly, I do not run a 4.3 forty. I ran a 4.9. But I did run a 4.24 pro agility.

It depends a lot on the law school but in the aggregate I agree it’s not. Most people who go should not.
Lincoln and Pickle Smoochers are about 50-65% depending on year of people with full time legal jobs. Some years lower.

That sucks pretty hard considering it costs 200k or whatever it is now.

But yeah it's just like college. The stats are weighed down by incompetent people.

I’m amazed by the amount of Pickle Smoochers law grads that struggle with the bar exam.

I graduated when the effects of the 08 downturn were still in full force and a lot of people in my class were jobless with crippling debt - huge gamble back then to go if you’re paying full freight.

I tell people now it’s not worth it unless you’re going to an elite school and willing to ride out big law for 3-4 years or you get a massive scholarship - Lincoln and Pickle Smoochers both carry a ton of risk unless you’re going for nearly free.
