The majority of responses ITT will be from high earners or those with careers who clearly aren't in it for the money. I've seen this thread once a year on tMB for years.

It's a trade off. Most who are highly compensated aren't passionate about their career and vice versa. I chose money, but the definition of rich depends on perspective.

Edit: And to Or

I absolutely, 100% did it for the money.

Fuck. This year at the age of 34.

5 years of military service either hurt me in achieving this by taking me away from learning and getting experience in IT or being a veteran helped me land my job to earn this role.

25 - gotta love law school

What percentage of people are making 100k 5 years after law school? It's not high.

I was an associate slave for 3 years making $72,000 salary but in year 3 they gave me a Christmas bonus of $25,000 and a partner offer letter.

Now I just keep my good clients happy and only take new cases that I want.

I have 10 jury trials scheduled for 2023 and I know my client can pay because it’s the State Government of Missouri.

It depends a lot on the law school but in the aggregate I agree it’s not. Most people who go should not.
+1. Ton of law schools are basically a racket. Like every single law school in Chicago charges the same amount for tuition w/ very different prospects.

Hit over 100k household with my wife when we were DINKs. Under that now that she's home with our kids, but we're far richer.
@Cookiemonster, like you, I spent 15 years touring in a band and didn't really focus on my career until that was over. I'm also 14 years older than my wife, so she was in school for a portion of that. We were poor. Now she makes well over 100k and I just hit the 100k mark in 2021 when I was 41. I'm also lucky enough that I've spent my life doing exactly the things I want to do, so money has never really been the goal for me. I absolutely love what I do.

What bands were you in? We played a few metal festivals in Europe so we may have run in some of the same circles.
