I'm not worried about timeline probably least of my concerns. Certainly not where my frustration in the post where you were responding to is coming from. That might be other peoples issues, not mine.

My massive concern is Hoiberg getting a raise while a permanent AD (his boss) and permanent President (AD's boss) isn't in place. I could really give two shits if we were on year 2 of the searches for AD and President or month 2. You can't just start extending coaches and giving raises. You give the new AD a built in excuse a year or two down the road AND you put your financial balance sheet in a predicament for someone the permanent person you are getting ready to hire didn't give their approval on.

We are completely circumventing the process and failing to learn from history here, but this time it's ok because everyone wants Hoiberg extended. That's not what is for the greater good of the overall athletic department and University.
Sometimes (every time) you got to saddle up and roll those fuckin die, man.

Ok, good.

I strongly disagree, without knowing the info behind the scenes. Are other programs reaching out? NBA? Did Alberts have this extension in place, or in talks, prior to his departure? Not to mention the minimum, standard 5-year contract.

You say we haven't learned, and that's valid. I will offer a friendly reminder though, it works both ways. Moos hanging Miles out to dry absolutely screwed him and the program.

Thanks for the response.

Ya I think the problem is when we've "saddled up" in the past it's bit us in the ass. And it's not about whether the extension and raise was warranted (like Bo's was). It's more about who your boss is matters. Everytime we've had a coaching situation pop up the last few hires they always say "well Frost wasn't Alberts' guy, well Riley wasn't Moos' guy, well Pelini wasn't Eichorsts guy." May as well make sure the new boss is on board with who we are extending.

That's before we talk about structuring a contract the way the new AD wants, playing with his financials when we are one of the few self-sustaining athletic departments, etc.

Why would what Alberts had in place matter at all if we are getting a new AD? In regards to other teams sniffing around or possibly NBA, that's why you don't drag your feet. We are already hiring a new AD, let's you know shit was just weird behind the scenes. If we are really that close to hiring the Washington AD why not wait another 48 hours, was Hoiberg going to take another job right before we played A&M in the NCAA tournament?

Moos was a full-time AD that didn't extend Miles. Way different situation, the full-time AD fucked that up, unless your contention is the Chancellor he reported to should have overstepped him and given Miles an extension. I'd still argue that's wrong though.

We are just doing everything ass-backwards and it's comical to me. All of the things we were so mad at in the past are still happening, the fanbase just happens to agree on this one with the President.

It's called honoring your word. It use to mean something, and for me it still does. And I assume the vast majority of Nebraskans agree.

Moos didn't hire Miles, that's the point. Not who's full-time, interim, etc. New AD and the odds are stacked he signed off on it. Your entire response had to do with not waiting to extend and increase Hoiberg before an AD is in place. Welp, there goes that.

An experienced one, with what seems like a proven track record of not only fundraising but football focus as well. So instead of celebrating, we continue ranting.

I agree with your underlying message. It’s not best practice to make AD decisions when you don’t have an AD. It can create headaches in the future.

At the same time, you have to create an air of stability even if there isn’t any and the fact that this is a decision that LeBlanc was “seemingly” involved in has me thinking it was the best move in a potentially problematic situation.

Not that anyone gives a shit, but I'm in the "you can't wait for fulltime people to conduct routine business" camp and yes extending Fred is routine business.
I hate when I agree with you. It makes me question my opinion.

I also think what @PonyBoy said is relevant. Turd may have worked out the terms of the extension and they were just waiting for a last legal review or something along those lines. They also could have had milestones laid out and Fred hit everything.

Regardless of the reason Baron in rare form has it right.

I think we'll be ok.

Greg Sharpe mentioned tonight that Hoiberg and Dannen know each other. Evidently Dannen reffed some of Hoiberg’s HS basketball games. I’m sure there is a level of comfort.

Honoring who's word? The guy that left? That's beyond ridiculous.

So you think the new AD that hadn't signed a contract with us yet, background check wasn't finalized signed off on the extension? We may be worse off than I thought. Yes, my entire rant is we are still doing things ass backwards. Nebraska still can't get out of its own way.

I don't know enough about either of these two guys yet, but on the surface I love the AD hire, love the President hire, that's not my issue. My rant is processes that Nebraska continues to get wrong that have burned us for 20 years and put us in this position are still happening. It's not that Hoiberg or Williams wasn't deserving of a raise or extension. Miles not being a Moos guy is exactly the point i'm making. All of a sudden we have a new AD in place that just got 2 coaches extended with money he is responsible for before he was officially in his position. It's a built in issue/excuse 2-3 years down the line.

Look at it this way... Hoiberg and WIlliams got extensions from the interim AD, ridiculous. New AD (who reports to President) hired by interim President, with quotes from interim President talking about how great of a hire it is. 24 hours later interim President gone and new President taking over that new AD will be reporting to. To your point, i'm sure new AD knew who the new President was going to be, but we waited 9 months, go ahead and wait 9 months and 2 days so things are done properly. You lose Alberts and all of a sudden both hires completed in less than a week? It takes longer to get hired at a Casey's gas station than that.

I'd agree there. I think my problem is a summation of the parts. Took so long to find someone it pissed our AD off and he left, he leaves and we just start extending people and finalize the President role and find an AD in less than a week.

There's just so much behind the scenes bullshit I can't stand it. And it concerns me that no matter who we extend (hell we extended Alberts), or who we hire they are going to be the victim of things out of their control. Maybe that's just the world we live in. As I pointed out, Carter replaced the old Ohio State President because she had differences with the trustees.

I definitely think there's some comfort there. Not sure it's because he ref'd his basketball games though.

I think the AD hire has Hoiberg and Rhule in a good spot.

Yes. If that's what happened, which is pure speculation, it's not ridiculous at all.

Most definitely yes.

Took so long to find someone it pissed our AD off and he left

Took so long? Even without an announcement yesterday, we are 7 months in to the process. On average, it takes 10 months to hire a University President.

The process for Florida, Ohio State, Indiana & Minnesota took between 10 & 13 months. Michigan State took over 2 years. There are many more that took 10+ months as well. Sure, you'll find an outlier like Cockeye.

But, at Nebraska, it should take less than 7!? Insert Taylor Swift okay gif.

No. Turd left because of Turd. He obviously wants to be more than an AD.

I'm tired of these bullshit excuses.

It took Ohio State 9 months to hire Ted. They must be a real mess too.

Kristina Johnson got the boot because she punched someone.
