This is all reasonable. I’ll say:
1. Gbayor-I believe the staff was more worried about losing Shavers than Gbayor so encouraged him to find money. I expect Shavers to more than replace his production in more snaps and another season under his belt. So what we’d be looking for is a backup replacement. Maybe 2. And ideally Rogers is ready to be one of those two.

2. Boerk-I believe that if we felt he was critical he’d still be here. The diminishing role of the TE will be evident next year and I’m not concerned we lost Boerk. I more so hope we can make use out of Nelson as he’s a better fit for body type we want moving forward.

3. Dowdell- not ideal. We don’t have a RB like him left on the roster. But I don’t think his production is irreplaceable. Especially since I’m doubtful those tight stacked goal line sets aren’t going to be a thing moving forward. And I actually would rather see us see what Parker and Nelson can do that bring someone in. Ives, too, maybe.

4. This Gabe guy- agree he’s not going to be a difference maker for us but I dint think we need that. We need a body though. And think he is better than Dylan Parrott.

5. Nwaneri- I believe he asked to red shirt. His production in a red shirt year of a true freshman season was fine. He did play, btw. I expect him to be a major part of our game plan next year and be good while at it.

6. I would like a top tier WR. If we can’t do that then I’d prefer seeing what the guys we have can offer.

7. We need a starting OT. This is the ultimate need.

8. We need another IOL, preferably a C.

9. We need a backup QB.

10. I Like the George commit. I felt our DL was either too OLBie or too DT’ie. This guys is a decent edge setter for us. Downgrade from Butler for sure. But hopefully Cam in a bigger role will make up the difference.

11. We need another S or two.

Overall, if we want to be a developmental program at some point we’ve got to play those kids we’re developing and not just rely on the portal. What we lost was proven capabilities so it’s uncomfortable. And the math we’re doing is comparing the losses to the adds. Hopefully the players who are sticking around and who showed good flashes are going to have great years for us.
I'm pumped as hell for Shavers. My concern at that spot is you lose Bullock, Gbayor, Thompson, and more than likely Wright. You have basically no one with experience sitting there.

Good call on Boerkircher if Holgo isn't going to use him, why pay him.

Agree on Dowdell, that was more to illustrate we are losing production.

I hope Gabe is a difference maker, but my immediate reaction was he is a Stephon Wynn type.

We need a WR, 2 OL, and a backup QB but I don't know what transfer QB looks at our situation as a good fit? Maybe there's another Gebbia out there that left Oregon State for Ohio State?

The East Tennessee State guy I think will be good. In fact i'd argue we have had some more success with lesser level kids at a higher clip like Toure, Omar Brown, etc.

The developmental part is the key. And do you even redshirt guys anymore? I like what Rhule is doing for our program, I just am really scratching my head at who we are "ok" losing and who we are replacing with. We need a LB on the second level in a bad way.

Like others have said we have a ways to go but it does have the feeling of other teams playing chess while we're still playing checkers in the portal game.
And this is far from over. I'm just looking at what we've lost compared to what we've gained so far. We get this stud WR, grab an OT that has started like a Ben Scott, get a DL that has actually played P4 football and a second level LB, i'll be pretty happy.

I will say that's where some of my calm is coming from, this is just the first window. But if you look at how we were using the portal last year compared to this year, little concerning to me. We are going after way more guys for depth than players that have been impactful on their previous teams. The most impactful guys we have brought in so far is a long snapper and a punter.

That said, we get one or two of these tackles on campus today. Grab that WR we have zoned in on, makes me feel a bit better. My worry is mostly defensively.
I mean Rhule is literally a DL coach has always had good dlines everywhere he went so yeah he did

Could also be the coaches feel good about some of the young guys we have and don’t need to get portal guys
I feel like Rhule has made some glaring mistakes when it comes to roster management and part of that is playing younger guys.
If a guy flashes some potential and then you try to keep hiding him while he learns the playbook someone else will offer them money. Have to let young guys eat.
Especially when the other option is a 6th year senior

I had said the same thing in another thread about losing known quantities for unknown ones. If you look at our losses as individuals it doesn't look as bad but if you start to look at it as a whole it becomes a little more concerning.

As of December 19th, the transfer portal remains open for another 9.5 days. Players from teams competing in the College Football Playoff will have an additional five days to enter the portal once their season concludes.

Do we expect NU to immediately pursue the first players who become available? Do we truly believe the staff is not working behind the scenes, vetting and interviewing portal players, or even anticipating those who might eventually enter?

Honestly, I would be more concerned if NU were acting impulsively, grabbing players without ensuring they are the right fit. Taking the time to evaluate and make thoughtful decisions is far more reassuring than a hasty, "shoot from the hip" approach.

So why did all of the DL that had experience transfer out if the guy that developed them is still here? Why did WIlliams literally say he needs to go where he is going to get developed when he left if Rhule developed him?

Maybe because the DL coach that left to go to FSU is basically his surrogate father? Jesus, give it a rest. You’re freaking out over a guy that had 90% of his production against Purdue and Rutgers.

I'm not freaking out, i've said in this thread you're reading I wasn't really a Williams fan because he only had one move. I was responding to a quote saying Rhule was the one that developed them, I found a video of literally one of our transfers saying that wasn't the case, and posted it.

I'm actually more freaking out over your reading comprehension than the loss of Williams for our team.

Sadly, I want to be the first person to go on record and say Gabe Moore never does shit for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. I honestly don't mind picking up dudes for depth reasons. But dudes like Gabe Moore aren't even depth. They're just dudes who top off the pile of shit.

I was waiting for this, so now that this is out there, do you all think we put he name on the stadium immediately when he is a 2 time first team all American?
