McCook finally got a Scoots a month ago and they had an article in the Newspaper about how 1 of the founders of Scooters is from Culbertson. (town of ~500 people thats 10 miles west of McCook)

My wife has been so happy to have it, its been 3 years since we lived in a town that had any coffee place. (let alone a drive thru)
Was shocked to see a couple opening up by us within the past few months, about 30 min. Northwest of STL.. lines are nuts!
Know a guy that has a franchise of Scooters and the rights to a half dozen more. Seems like it’s been a great deal for him.

Newspaper article about them said they were opening 2 locations in South Carolina this year.

local? regional? nah...thats national man. Big time move

@Daddy as with most franchises that already have locations in the area there is a very likely chance the rights to any future flags in the area are already owned by somebody. The rights to franchise are typically long term option contracts. (deal with it all the time in Hotels) Often times the rights holder has a period of years where they have to build (commit) or they lose their rights in the flag and then corporate will sell them again. You can find out who the current owner is and buy it from them or form a partnership, or just wait for the option to sunset and get it from corporate.

Also you have to consider the exclusivity zone rights that come with the franchise. Example: can't be another Hampton for a 2 mile radius around my property. I assume JJ's would be similar so you would need to check distance to another franchise.

**Be Aware** You might also run into rights owners who have no intention on developing, they just want to restrict the market. Usually they own other businesses and don't want it cannibalized. I have found these rights owners typically refuse to sell and you have to wait for their option to sunset. On the inverse, I have found owners who simply don't have the capital to develop are typically willing to sell. They fully planned on developing but something happened and yada yada yada just haven't been able to do it yet/can't do it anymore.

PS: You want my free advice? If you're gonna try and bring a franchise to a city like Lincoln (tons of franchises) get something thats not there yet. (especially if its food) Example: for the life of me I don't understand why there isn't a Waffle House somewhere close to Downtown Lincoln. Low overhead, tons of cash flow.

This is really good info. Thanks.

We bought our home 7 years ago from their Marketing person. They moved "back home" to Valentine and bounced back to our neighborhood six months later. I think they simply own a couple of franchises at this point, but I can point you their direction for a conversation.
I spoke with corporate ~5 years to get an idea on capital requirements and was told all franchising rights in Nebraska were spoken for. Might have been their polite way of getting rid of me.

Regardless, I have convinced myself that the coffee game is a winner.

feel like we should be paying you 9.99 a month and letting you sponsor tunnel talk for this sort of info

Funny - I’ve never had a cup of coffee in my life. Tried it like two times - last time was at a Cuban cafe in Miami during my bachelor party IDK how everyone drinks that shit
It's an acquired taste. In my case, I acquired in the the campus library the night before finals. It was finally time to review the notes the pledges took during the semester and crack the spine on the new textbooks to see what they said. Coffee made it possible, and for that, I'm forever grateful.

Yeah I mean you're not gonna like Cuban coffee if you've never had coffee before. That'd be like giving bourbon to a 16 year old girl as her first drink.

In my younger days a coffee and a dip would put me right onto the toilet in the morning.

When you wake up at 5:30am and need to be in the deer stand/duck blind by 6:15am - it’s hard to convey how absolutely fucking imperative it is to have to get yourself to shit in the next 15 minutes to avoid losing a sock in the woods.
