Took Mrs True Colors to several jewelry stores and she loved one that was $3200. Granted, we are both farm kids and naturally frugal. But I think the most important part of it all was that we both had conversations about what a fair price range is and just how much we could stretch it. Luckily, she put the one that was $3200 on her finger and she fell in love with it.
That’s the nice thing. My extended family owns a jewelry store so I can get it close to cost and I know what I’m actually getting

I spent $5,000 I think but I was a poor college student. That was also ten years ago.
Paid 800 for a synthetic .5c diamond. Wife didnt want a big ring and I didn't want to overpay. She still loves it

Convince her that blood diamonds perpetuate violence and what she really wants is an emerald or some shit to avoid artificial diamond values. Probably won't work, but worth a shot.
Otherwise, it really comes done to what she wants. Things like Brilliant Earth and Blue Nile offer reduced costs for better value, so that's worth exploring. My wife wanted a specific brand so I dropped $17K or something like that, which was kind of annoying but w/e.

This. And I can tell you on my second wife, I’m buying her one of those rubber work out rings.
99% of their jewelry is purchased just like anyone else does. Very little is from individuals selling to them. Same with guns.
