Engagement Ring Prices

It really depends on what you’re comfortable spending based on your savings and income. Someone mentioned the two months salary guideline, I would say that two months’ take home pay should be the absolute maximum. Women will say it’s two months’ gross salary but they’re greedy and don’t understand that that comes out to 1/3 of a year’s net income.

I used Blue Nile and hand picked the diamond and band for my wife’s ring. I did a LOT of research and was very picky with the stone that I selected. Ultimately I paid a lot, but it appraised for more than twice what I spent. Obviously the appraisal value doesn’t mean much other than for insurance, but I’m confident that I got a good deal.

Yeah anyone who tells you that diamonds retain value or it's an investment is either an idiot or trying to fleece you. The most valuable that thing will be is the day you buy it. The worth is w/e your girl attributes to it, which is 100% a ladydick measuring contest.

Even if I made Garrett level money, I wouldn't drop 10 Gs

I was going to go 100% custom designed setting with loose diamond from Blue Nile. But I ended finding a very similar setting at Kay for about 1/3 as my custom designed one.

I created the spreadsheet below to find the "perfect" loose diamond.

In the end I believe I paid around $13k and it appraised close to $19k. I almost sold it on the spot.

Not to lie, it's a damn nice ring.

I customized one for $9K about a year ago.

If I could redo it, I’d have a serious conversation with my fiancé about getting a lab grown diamond. Those should be more popular. Diamonds are a total waste of money.

Looks nice, though.
