I liked what he did today.

But last series was a complete train wreck as is already being discussed.

End of the game question: I was transitioning from radio to tv right at the time of the targeting review. Was there any explanation on tv about why Day wasn’t penalized for throwing his headset? Obviously Rhule got 15 for the same thing earlier in the season.

As it happened, Damon though Day was going to get ejected.

Not really, even Mike Pereira thought it should’ve been a personal foul and said that a sideline warning made absolutely no sense in the context of the flag.

Idk if it matters but I don't think he actually threw it. He ripped it off and acted like he was going to spike it but I believe it never actually left his hand

Ah ok. Watched the replay and see what you’re saying. Watching it again, you had to believe they were flagging Day for personal. What a weird series of events.

I really liked draw this game. Seemed like the defenders and blitzers left the A gap open all game, why Raiola was scrambling so easily. Also a lot of cover two so easy 10+ of open space past the line when they ran verts.
Yes! Still would of done some play action! I really don't understand what our thoughts were on offense this game?
They have to be trying to hide a Raiola injury? Or they are dumb!

Didn’t OSU get a sideline warning earlier in the game? How often do you get a second one and it isn’t additional yards?

But he didnt throw it....he was smart and actually held on to it.

Nothing besides maybe the great screen game we run, beats the Haarberg experience. Dylan makes some nice throws to get us rolling then hey let’s put HH in for some Qfollow/power run game, while we put Dylan at wide receiver. I mean lord get a creative package with some triple or more zone read with him back there. Maybe run that with 1st and goal from the 7 for 4 plays, I don’t know? But these one offs are rough.

I am anxious to see Satterfield hit the road as well but we might be singing a different tune on the HH runs if our Tight Ends could block. I believe it was Rutgers that Fidone completely wiffed on a block that would have created space for a touchdown and Boerk had a terrible effort on a block this week on a HH run that would have been a significant big play.

Did you see the HH keep where he didn't get vertical on the keep phase and basically assholed his own blocker....yuck.

Are you in favour of a change at OC after the season is over? Or would you prefer to keep Satt?
I think if you had to make a decision right now you make a move. The problem is, what if we go 8-4 or something and our run game stays like what we saw against Ohio State, etc.?

I don't mind Rhule taking a whole season to evaluate, but if things continue the same way like us being 92nd in scoring offense, is it really defensible to keep him?

It was more than the last series. How many WR screen pass plays (or any screen pass play for that matter) does a 1.4 mil OC need to see lose yards per game to realize those plays should not be part of your game plan any longer? I bet the hit rate on them is under 5% successful.

And then the run game - way too vanilla and easily sniffed out. Not enough different blocking schemes, or looks for an opposing defense to have to adjust to. Plus, rarely ever a play action pass off a run look. How about play action and boot for a try?

Just not good enough play calling or game planning by our OC.
Eh... we ran for close to 4 ypc and over 100 yards on the 4th best rushing defense in the country. I actually loved the run game.

Screens, it's just part of offenses now. He probably needs to coach to not just continue to throw them if we can't block them, or find a different way to dial those up and maybe do a fake WR screen when they are just mowing over our guys to tackle them.

Ohio State is second in the country in PPG and we had the lead on them. I'll see what things look like against UCLA this week, I think people are going to be pretty surprised when our offense looks pretty good.

I get what you are saying. Still don't think our run game play calling is very good. DR had his 38 yd scramble, and another 15 yarder or so. Of course his sacks come off the run game total I believe.

And I know screens are part of offenses now. It's not that - it's square peg, round hole - too much of something over and over for games that literally rarely works for us. You have to have more in your repertoire to try. Of course some screens are fine - good actually. Unless the hit rate on them is like 5%, which is us. Then dial it back a bit on those consistently failed plays.

Our defense was really good this game. We had a big athleticism hole in the secondary that got taken advantage of, but I doubt anyone is complaining about our defense. Indiana? Different story. But different game and week.

I just haven't seen any consistency from our offense to warrant thinking we are on the verge of breakig out, and I do think our OC is the biggest part of that issue. But we do have players who are not executing well either too often. The two go hand in hand.

I think we beat UCLA - and we should. I surely hope our offense can get into the 30's for a score. Defense, do not expect a letdown game like Indiana. We will see saturday how we play on both sides of the ball.

I think all the things you say are warranted and make sense. This isn't directed at you, but I truly think a lot of people that are mad about the screens think that Satt is up in the box calling it over and over and that's just not what is happening. I played roughly 2 decades ago and I caught dozens of those and never was one called in the huddle. Similar to the conversations about the "screens" to Fidone first game of the year.

But we need to have something other than those screens as a counter when the box is packed is where i'm at. The fact we brought in these big bodies WRs in the portal and they are getting rag-dolled by corners when blocking is crazy to me. Have some pride.

We gotta take care of UCLA at home. They scare me a bit, their record is a tad deceiving. After that figure out a way to get your 7th win.
